I want to install an electric awning on our 98 Intrigue. Looked at A&E WeatherPro and Carefree Eclipse. Since the awning goes over the front door, installation poses some interesting issues. If you've installed on, you know what they are. Has anyone installed an electric awning on an intrigue or allure (including the front door)?

I haven't heard too many good things about electric awnings. Those with the electric ones wish they had the ZipDee awnings that we have. You are opening up yourself to more problems that you do not have now. Give it some thought.

After looking at the installation options, we're considering not changing but installing new canvas. Another question. I understand that ZipDee has a modification pertaining to the arms that connect the roller to awning rail located on the top side of the coach. Anyone have this and what is it??

I have an A&E awning, it has worked for 8 years. But I would prefer to have my old Zip Dees from my Allure and Airstream. If the Zip Dees have the inverted support arm they are very easy to set up. You can set the angle you want. You can set the angle from one end to the other so rain will run off. If supported properly a Zip Dee will handle winds much higher in velocity. They work, and if the spring fails they can be repaired. You loose a motor and you will find yourself up the creek. Zip Dee backs their product. As an A&E sales rep told me one time. You bought it its yours, don't come looking to us when you have issues! If you don't like the design, by something else. That was at the FMCA Rally in Redmond Oregon. You should have seen Rv owners run the other way from A&E's booth. Carefrees aren't much better, their topper awnings are worse for sure. At least with the Carefree you can adjust the angle of the patio awning. The problem with the A&E is it comes straight out or at most a very shallow angle, which doesn't shade the patio very well. And in the mornings or late afternoons is useless.

I didn't have the option on my Airstream or 98 Allure, but saw it demonstrated at CC home coming rallies and at FMCA . It really helps when you are vertically challenged. They also have an installation extension arm you can buy. But if you are ever near Chicago or a FMCA rally call them a head of time and they will bring the parts to convert your present set up. I also installed head knocker bars on my Allure to get the support arm above head height, which was a nice addition.

Two years ago I had Zip Dee replace my fabric and had the new upper arms replaced with the new style. They are attached to the side of the RV up high and hook on the awning tube shaft. Waaaay easier to put up and down. I also had the slides installed for the lower arms. Sure makes a difference when you don't have to walk around them anymore.
I would not install electric either. I have helped a few people repair them and they are more 'delicate' then Zip Dee's and not as much shade either.

We bought the new awning arms from ZipDee. We going to have ZeeDee install them at a Rally but they didn't show. I ended up installing them myself. Not too bad a job. They made all the difference in the world. Much easier to use and now use the awning more. I am short and it really helped. I would do the mod again in a heart beat. Money well spent. Sent me a email if you want information on the install.
