Home theater amp.(Jamo)

The Jamo unit (home sound system) died. I am looking for suggestions on what to replace it with. Everything I find is too big for the cabinet. I don't need the DVD player.

Bob - The Sony Blu-Ray also fits in between the wooden bolster moldings. As for the sub-woofer amp, Dayton makes an exact duplicate at about 1/2 the price of the Jamo unit. Ours crapped out and we replaced it with a Dayton unit. Also discovered they wired the two voice coils incorrectly at the factory. What else is new so check the wiring. As for the Jamo surround sound amp with DVD player, I replaced that with a Yamaha RX-V367 receiver. It too just fits. Nice unit with plenty of inputs to include HDMI. Good luck.

Scott,

My Jamo unit is 2 1/2" high; the Yamaha unit is 6 1/2". Your cabinet must be different or I need your thoughts on getting it to fit. My Jamo sub amp is still working.

It may not be the solution you are looking for butnwhat I didnwas to cut out the shelf above the receiver and put in a full sized home theater unit that took the place in the cabinet of the old receiver and the VHS player. It all works way better than the original unit and I never used the VHS anyway.

Bob - I was referring to the width of the Yamaha unit not the height. New and upgraded electronics will most likely mean a different beauty plate. I tossed the original beauty plate and left the new equipment neatly stacked. They used some weird wooden rack for the OEM equipment. It had screws run in at odd angles, a bunch of stripped threads and exposed heads. One of them (on the bottom out of sight) scratched the finished wood when I slid this unit out. I needed to make a special slide out extension to hold the equipment to allow it to be slid out. A real pain in the a$$ to service anything in there. Once that was gone to include all the old electronics inside you've got a nice 16-7/8" width to work with. Plenty of height too. If I have problems with anything now it's easy to get at and fix. Also air circulation is much better. I'll try to get a picture of the setup. I don't have a satellite receiver either. I'm waiting for more rational programming options and better business relations.

We have the same coach and we replaced the JAMO with a Samsung Blu-Ray 2 1/2 inches high. I do have a Yamaha in our stick house and it is a good unit; but, probably overkill for a motor home.
I have been into the entertainment center way too many times but I do think there is plenty of room for the Yamaha. You have to replace the front trim but that is not a big deal. I would have concern over the extra heat generated by the Yamaha.

What is the JAMO unit? Since you replaced it with a Samsung Blu-Ray is the Samsung just a player or is it also a receiver/amp?
I ask because I have to replace my current River Park amp with something that has a volume control. The new TV's come with fixed output for volume thus I have no control over the volume when the TV speaker output is hooked up to the River Park amp.
I looked at the Yamaha and felt that it was way too big and overkill just to control the TV volume for the speakers.
What I need is a small amp or receiver/amp that I can plug the speaker output from the TV into to control the volume to the speakers. My other TV had variable output and was not a problem.

The JAMO was an amplifier. The Samsung is an amplifier and Blu-Ray DVD player which ties into the TV and sends the sound through the surround sound speakers in the ceiling. You control the TV volume through the Samsung. On my system I turn the TV volume down to nothing so that I do not get garble from the TV speakers competing with the ceiling speakers.

If you don't mind sharing what is the model number of the Samsung? It sounds like what I am looking for. I need something that I can take the sound output, probably using the RCA jacks, from the TV and connect it to an amp. That way I can tie the existing speakers to the amp and control the TV volume via the amp.

At least I think it should work that way.

I had the Jamo unit replaced with a Pioneer Audio/Video Receiver, Model VSX-812-K. The work was done by National Indoor RV Center, Lewisville, TX. Eddie Braley, General Manager, was my contact. The receiver controls all the switching between the audio and video components. The tech, Bobbie, removed the Winguard switching unit, the repeater for the master remote, and CD changer. We now have the receiver, DVD player, and the DirecTV DVR, neatly installed in the cabinet. Very convenient and sounds great.
