Electrical outlets dead on part of coach

Hello

Replaced GFI and the electrical outlets won't work on major portion of coach. Reset the GFI in bedroom, bought new one that did not work.
Went outside and reset all fuses. still not working.
Anyone have any ideas?

Check the circuit breakers on the inverter. It worked for me. One of them was tripped.

Thank You Larry,

We checked the Inverter and one of the fuse switches were off. Switched it on.

There seems to be something that keeps tripping the GFI.
We are having work done on the Coach here at Country Coach and not sure what is going on.
They checked our Hurricane heater which needs to be replaced. Waiting for parts.

They also fixed our inside door slide that was not working.

Unfortunately, They will not be back until Tuesday.

Howdy. We had the same problem. Turned out that there were 2 GFIs. Replaced the second one and all okay. Look around for the second. The tip off in our case was that one whole side of the coach was dead, the other side was okay.

We could not find a second GFI unless it is hiding somewhere not visible. We only have one in our 2003 Allure in the back bedroom.
Still no resolution so we have extension cords stringed out until we can figure this out. Thanks for the information.

Patricia, did you change the GFI because it kept tripping, or for another reason? Could you have installed the GFI wrong? Our 2003 Allure has only one GFI located in the back BR too.

I had one of those problems that usually happened a day or so after it rained. My problem was water {about 2 cups full] in a wiring junction box under the slide! I was checking grounds at all the power plugs and could not find a problem until I found a short on the power side. Hope you have luck in finding your problem.

I suggest getting your hands on a circuit tester - - el cheapo yellow plug in type with a series of amber and red lights - - to check for an open neutral leg. That's what caused my problem... identical to yours, years ago. The loose connection was in the overhead of the front passthrough bay.

That post was from me. Our symptoms were no power to the AC plugs or microwave. I can't remember if it worked on generator or not but the problem turned out to be a transfer switch within the inverter.
I took the inverter out and took it to a shop and ran the AC wires around the inverter while we waited for the repair.

Not all but many of the coaches out there - run one ac leg through the inverter and the other

directly to the coach. May not be GFI at all but inverter switch, fuse, bad connection, etc. Had

problem like yours - changed contacts in inverter from steel to gold and solved problem.

GFI is installed correctly, however The coach definetly has some electrical problems. After reinstalling the old GFI back it is still kicking GFI, but also kicked one breaker in Inverter itself and keeps kicking the circuit breaker on electrical panel for the hurricane heater. We think that when they checked our Hurricane Heater something may have happened. We will just have to wait one more day for them to return to get this checked. Thank God our heat pumps works as it has been cold here in Junction City, OR. Our microwave, refrigerator and AC pumps works but no electrical to rest of coach.

Here is a long shot for you if all of this has taken place at the same pad. I arrived one time at a site at the campground at James Island County Park in Charleston, SC. I plugged into a 50 amp plug but did not notice that I had no hot water until the following morning. Of course I started to go through the troubleshooting process with the Hydro Hot unit. In the process I found no 120 volts on the leads coming down to the Hydrohot from the switch panel in the bedroom. The breaker however was not tripped. I then removed the protective cover over the bus bars and lo and behold I was missing one leg. It was not just my HydroHot but a lot of things that I hadn't noticed.
So I went out and pulled the plug to check the power stanchion and it was alive at 240 across the two legs. I went back in to start on the throw over switch and surge protector only to find that I now had full power. Apparently the blade on the plug was not making contact with the fingers in the plug. Re-plugging it did the trick. I was back on the same site the following year and exactly the same thing happened. This time I knew what to do.

Told you it was a long shot but it happened to me and twice.

Sorry about your current problem...but I would interested in finding out if the location where you are at, will accept some if not all responsibly for your problem.
If they were working on the coach when this happened and it has not been a problem in the past, I would like to hear what they say is or was the problem.

These are the type of things that this web site is good for, we have to relay on each other, to tell us who is good and who is not so good.

Hi,

I had a problem like yours on a 97 Magna and it ended up being a small surge protector on the front TV at the plug. Look for one there and also on the microwave. I agree with the post that said look for an open circuit, hope this helps.

Maybe I missed something, Do the outlets work with the inverter turned on? Do the outlets work with the generator working? Are all four red led indicators lit on the surge and low voltage protecter on?/ Have you taken the cover off the circuit breaker panel and checked to see if you have voltage coming in to and out of all the breakers. Have checked from the ground terminals on the out lets to the chassis for continuity? Have you checked to see if the neutral terminals on the CB panel are tight, the hot terminals tight etc. Make sure your inverter is off the genset off and the power plug disconnected!!!!!! Some one mentioned or asked if you got a three prong circuit checker you can plug into each receptacle with led indicator readout. They are available at Jerry's, Lowe's, Home Depot? All it takes is one loose corrode connection to give you the symptom you are experiencing.

May not apply to this specific thread, but thought as others may use the search feature on 'outlets', I would provide some input in this thread.
CC in some years, used a white coupling (almost combo junction box and coupler) that have been known to become 'unconnected/loose'. Especially in slides, you could have up to two of these coupllers. One close to the outlet (in our 04 Allure, the outlet next to the dining table had a coupler down on the floor, below the cabinets lowest panel), and then where the more flexible wire runs back to a home run with the main cable tree. On ours, the outlet stopped working when the coupler back by the main cable power tree, had come loose.
Whenever you run into one of these while doing work, add some extra tape or tie straps if you have enough access, to help keep them together...
I first heard about these, when I traced down and found the one in the cabinet, and posted to this board. I think it was either Don or Lee that told me to look for the extra coupler back by the power tree line...
