crossfire air system

Has anyone had experience with the crossfire system for dual wheels. It connects to both stems with a steel cord and has a valve that maintains both tires at the same pressue. In case of a fast, large air reduction, as I understand, of 10# or more the value shuts off air flowing from the good tire to the leaking one. Has too advantages for me, one is simple air addition to an outside air connection that airs both tires at the same time, and a visual indicator indicating air pressure range. I also have the smart tire 2 system on coach and tow to montior on the road. The visual is just extra to me, not really needed.
Just wondering about experience, opinions whateve thoughts anyone has.

To me the key question is whether a couple of PSI difference between inner and outer duals is really a matter of concern. If not, then why spend the money?

Lee the issue started for me with a slow leak on the inside left dual. Decided to change tires and did so. In doing this, decided to add the crossfire so to make checking the air pressure easier, I have the les schwab 180 degree gage but still at times was a pain, I was just wondering, after the fact, if anyone had issues or problems. I probably over check my tires but after one fast out and one unexplained drop of 40 pounds suddenly over the last 9 years its made me a tire watcher.

Hi Phil. Yes I understand the need for near-constant monitoring of tire pressures, but you stated that you have SmarTire on all your wheels, as I do. Doesn't that suffice? Yes, it is visual, but it does the job, which I can attest form personal experience. It works!

I've been using Crossfire for years and like the PSI equalization benefit. I've talked to truckers who use and like them too. The visual check is nice, and I have Smartire too, but batteries are dead in one wheel and I suspect it wont be long before they all quit.

Lee I like you depend on the smart tire but the one outside valve fill spot was the point for me, the visual is just because its there. I was interested to see if anyone had a problem with the system, since Les Schwab guys had drilled no extentors into my head in various seminars.

I agree with you Phil on the 'no extenders.' I continue to contend that Alligator valves caps (about $1/wheel) plus the correct gauge will easily get the pressure check done. I've been doing it that way for years.
No one has yet made the case that a couple of PSI difference between inner/outer duals is a real problem.
In any case, go with what you prefer that lets you sleep at night. There's more than one way to 'get 'er done.'
