Fire Exit Windows

After reading the original post, comments and watching the movie on you tube that was posted.
I thought it was very important to understand the working of the window(s) for just that one time that is needed, but never want to have to use.
But, has anyone here just recently tried to open the window(s) that probably as mine has not been used since the coach was built. Did it open easy, or hard? did it go back in place as it should? Just curious before I try and open these windows and run into any problems? Thanks

We went through this exercise last week, the rear bedroom exit window opens easily as it is just the standard window opening, however, the exit over the dining table was more challenging. There is a trigger on the top of the red handle that disengages the latch, but the latch was stuck and did not fold down to open the exit. It required some WD-40 and a little elbow grease to get it moving. Once the latch was open a push on the bottom opened the entire window from the frame, it is hinged on the top. We experienced no problems with closing and re-latching.
Glad we went through this exercise now and not in the heat of battle.

Herb, your latch seemed to be like mine and I was not having any luck getting it open either. Your description gave me the confidence and wisdom of using WD-40. After a couple of hours of waiting I was able to open it as you described so the latch handle was about perpendicular to the side of the window frame. All went well from there. I had an axe handle in the coach (to thump tires . . . right!) so I notched it about 20 inches from the handle and that became my 'stick' to hold the window open.

Our procedure is -

Quickly clear the window sill and dining table > Unlatch to window >

Open the screen and sliding pane 1/2 way > Push open the window frame >

Position the stick to hold the whole frame open > Put rug over the sill >

Roll out the window feet first.

Sounds like it works great for newer coaches. On the older coaches the windows do not hinge out. Whatever opening the window will slide open is what you have. No feet first. Maybe head first at best.

I also have a 1998 Pace Arrow that has a swing out emergency exit window. Not sure when the swing out configuration came into being, but at least 1998.
