110 power problem

Yahoo Message Number: 6025
I am a new owner (11 days) of a used '96' Country Coach... I am also new to motorhomes/RV'ing. We traveled 1400 miles over the past week, from Indiana to South Carolina and back. The roof air worked perfectly the whole trip until Monday. The diesel generator is working fine, but I am not able to get the roof air units to come on, nor to get the refrigerator to run on A/C. Everything else in the coach is working fine. Batteries are good, main breakers are ok, inverter breakers ok, main power switches are in 'on' position. Any ideas on what else to check or what the problem might be?.. Thanks for your help!.. The Rookie...Jeff

ps... I have other questions, but will save them for another post.

Jeff,

Do you have 110 power anywhere in coach with the inverter off, shore power unplugged and the generator running? If you have no 110 power anywhere under these conditions, it may be that your transfer switch failed to switch over to the generator.
I've had this happen twice over a 1 year period. I was able to get the power switch to reset by plugging into 50 amp power.

Hope this helps

Check the breakers on the generator. I had this problem last winter and one of the breakers had been tripped during servicing.

Jeff,

I have a '97 Intrigue, so I will try to help. You didn't mention if you were trying to run the AC's off of the generator or shore power. If off the generator, check the circuit breakers located on the generator. If it is like mine, one will trip and you will lose both AC's. The other thing to check is the GFI for the 110 volt power in the coach. It is located in the bedroom on the 110 volt receptacles by the bed (curb side).
I also experienced problems a couple of times with the switching on the shore power box. When that happened, my refrigerator did not have a 110 volt supply, so it switched to gas (it doesn't run off of the invertor). That would explain your AC's not running, too (if connected to shore power). One of the times I found a bad connection on my 30 amp to 20 amp adaptor plug (it was burnt somewhat on one side). The other time I pulled the shore power box switcher cover off to check voltages to the invertor, etc. and the problem cleared up without my doing anything. I hate that!

Hope this helps.

Joe,

My problem has apparently been in the shore power switcher box. I assume you are referring to the box located in the bedroom behind the left nightstand? If not what box? If so how does one get the cover off? Mine too always corrected itself by just plugging into shore power.

Steve,

We are talking about the same thing. Mine is located behind the streetside nightstand.
