We've had good luck with our US Gear unit too. Never a problem, break away safety, stealth install. We also ran an alternate power supply via our plug, to feed the CRV's battery, so no need to pull a fuse. I liked the proportional braking, and the manual 'lever control to activate the toad brakes'. We use the lever control when first starting out after hooking up the toad, to be sure the Stirling All Terain arms 'locks' open. (Before learning this trick, it seems like only one side would 'lock' when easing back in reverse after hook up. Usually this was the curb side. So, when easing away from the curb of our home with it's slight downgrade, the unlocked arm side would compress in, and the CRV would wander enough towards the curb to graze the tires along it. Now, by apllying a bit of the manual lever control brake force via the US Gear in coach control, it keeps just enough drag on the toad to help it 'lock' both arms. (I know what I was trying to say, not sure if I said it:)!).
The other feature of the US Gear I like, is the ability to quickly adjust the braking force. Not as much of a factor in todays rig, but with our old F53 98 Bounder Chassis, made me feel a bit safer when setting the force from 5 up to 8 in city stop and go traffic... Just that much more stopping assist.
This is on a 2007, with about 50K miles of trouble free usage.
Many good ones exist, but when we did our research back then - I came up with more of the 'plus' marks for this unit, then the others. Things change, so current research recommended:)!
Best of luck,
