Canopy Track Leak

Hi,

As some know, I've been struggling to get my slides tight and keep out the water. The last little leak was a bit tricky to figure out. It involved proving out that a water pathway exists right through the canopy track (the extrusion that attaches the canopy material to the bus). It seem impossible but do believe it. Replacing the porous Carefree of Colorado canvas with high quality Sea Mark water tight material was a HUGE improvement. I did think it would seal tight in the track but not so. As for the track, here's my analysis and

http://www.muniac.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=105#Post105 I've been testing this for the past 4 months with good results. Of interest is the leaking is somewhat random and not on all slides. My bedroom driver side slide was the only one leaking. Go figure!

I'll resurrect my old write-up on the vinyl tape slide sealing and add some photos to it and post soon. I started there and the project has morphed into something more complex. Sadly we did sustain some unnecessary water damage owing to ignorance of leaky joints. Perhaps a few others here can avoid those problems with the information presented. Stay dry.

Hey Scott,

I have Zip Dee awnings all around so, I am not familiar with the Carefree.
This may be an over simplification. But, is there enough clearance to reverse the extrusion so that the open part of the "C" is facing down rather than up as shown in your muniac drawings. Yes the attaching screws would show but, it may work as intended. As I recall, these awning extrusion tracks are very common attachments used on many types of awnings and are readily available.
Do you think this would solve your weeping problem? No pun intended....OK...yes, it is.

We are currently in the Indian Casino 18 miles outside of Durango Colorado. My front slide motor mount has sheared of the mount. The motor will operate but it is no longer attached to the plate on the coach. The attached area which is made of cast Iron has broken clean off.
Can anyone out there have a mech. to suggest or any other ideas. Unfortunately we were on a time schedule.

Sounds like you have been making some tight mountain turns Happened to us. Had to replace the shaft and also had to buy a new gear because the way the new shafts and gear are attached has been changed to a shear pin. Had ours fixed at Camping World in Little Rock Arkansas. With help from friends you can push in the slide and use a two by four to hold the slide in while you drive very carefully to a nearby RV repair center. Power Gear, the company that makes the parts only sells parts wholesale so you have get them from a distributor and it can take a week or more to get the parts.

Stan,

I take it that the motor mounted through the wall into the inverter area is the problem and is not just a shear bolt.
I know the slide can be pushed in with enough man power. Be sure you release the motor brake so the other end will also move.
I have used a 14' pipe wrench to crank the slide in using it on the square shaft. If one end is still connected and you release the motor brake and using the wrench on the square shaft and someone pushing on the end that is broken the slide will move in without much trouble. Just try to be moving both side in at the same time. The hardest part is getting up the slide up the first part as there is a hump that you need to have the slide get over when fully extended. I have never had to move the coach after moving the slide in so I don't know how to secure it to travel.
I don't know if this will help, however I have moved in my D/S slide several times doing this process.

When my slide popped out I called Louie at Premier RV in Junction City Oregon. He helped a whole bunch. I didn't have a manual on my coach and he was completely knowledgeable about all the little things on my coach, amazing. I ending up purchasing a ratcheting strap at Home Depot to get my slide in where I then drove several hundred miles to Junction City Oregon and had Premier RV do the repairs.

Mine didn't have the motor or gear but is the HWH hydraulic system.
