Inspire Owners Attention

Country Coach Owners of Inspires. Today our front slide on the passenger side would did not retract. The Power Gear mount completely broke off. This was a result of the Country Coach Manufacturing failure. The Power Gear mount only had one bolt. After a period of time the gear would rotate until it finally allow torque to build up and break off the remaining bolt. It became obvious when the motor was removed you could see where there was wear on the plate from the movement back and fort of the motor.

I would suggest that all Inspire owners check to make sure they have all the bolts required. If all the bolts are attached you should not have a problem, but if not add the correct bolt to prevent movement of the motor when you engage the slide. Tomorrow I am going to check all my motors and make sure that there is no movement when the slide is engaged.

Thanks Stan. My coach is only 72 ahead of yours down the line so could very well have the same condition. I'll check today.

Hi Guys,

FYI. Co-incidentally a few weeks ago we had problems with the drivers side slide out moving in a series of herky jerky steps. As my wife operated the slide I viewed the slide motor assembly swinging from side to side as the drive shaft was rotating, however the slide was still working. The noise from the motor drive indicated that the drive pinion was hitting and missing the large gear.. Managed to carefully retract the slide and get back on the road.
Dis-mantled at the local RV shop revieled missing teeth on the motor pinion as suspected. As we had not had any "jamming" problems with the slide out since new I am mystified as the why the teeth sheared off. Although they did look like cheap stamped out gears as opposed to fully machined and hardened gears. This leads to another issue in the fact that apparently you cannot purchase individual replacement gears, therefore had to buy a total motor and gear drive unit for total cost of approx $600 fitted.

I agree with Stan. Check the bolts holding the motor in place. The bolt heads are located in the inverter compartment. There are 4 bolts mounted through the bulk into the compartment where the motor is located.
I had replaced many shear pins, and new gear, and new gear shaft. The missing gear and shaft were replaced at a RV repair shop and they never checked to see if the motor mount bolts were loose. In fact one of the bolts was never installed.
After replacing the missing bolt and tightening the 3 other bolts, I have not broken a shear pin in over a year. I have been full timing for almost 5 years so I use the slides often.
Every one should check to see if these bolts are tight. Jock Vargo2005 Inspire51428
