Well here we go again:Tires. Everyone ready for a story. I'm not going to talk about my former Allure

with the underrated 275R 70's that caused me to recieve 4 telegrams, 4 sets of front tires from CC as

the Toyos kept failing and finally gave up and bought 275R80 Continentals.
This time its about 12R's. A
new adventure in learning.

My Intrigue was delivered with 12R Toyos and I was sure I was finally not going to have any tire issuses.

The coach was stored under cover, driven once a month, with the tires isolated from the asphalt floor.

Well at 4 years and 5 months the second rib on the left front tire collapsed anout 3/16ths of an inch uniformly around the tire on my way to a CC Home coming Rally. I was in Tucson and called Redburn

tire in El Paso my home and got a price on XZE* to replace my Toyos. The XZE is a regional tire with re-

oinforced walls. My dealer said ZX2 was a better choice. I called Les Schwab in Junction City and got

the same info. There price was 2% higher at $4986, but I didn't have to pay for new stems, mounting

balancing or labor and didn't have to pay Texas .08125 sALES TAX. Plus I needed to update my original

Smartire sensors to type II. So , I carefully made it to Junction City for my new set of XZ2 tires from

Michelin. I wanted 1315's on the front, but everyone said not a good idea with 8.25 rims and even if I

could et them on the tags, i would not be able to rotate the tires for best wear. Rotating meant using

the duals as a source. We I drove away a poorer but happy camper. Well I kept up the same tire routine

for the next 46 months. Drive the coach when in storage and keep the tires in the shade during

storage. The right fron only saw sunlight for a few hours in the morning as did the DS tag in the after

noon. I went to many tire seminars and learned about filling the tire to the Placard> Which I basically

did on the all the tires give or take a few .
Well I started my trip west in early May with the first stops being Tucson, Phoenix, and Palm Desert.

Well all was going well and the tires looked great untill I got Emerald Desert RV park. The two front tires show cracking under the letters of the Tire type and Michelin Brand name.
So nothing over for 55 mph

for me. Well by the time we get to Bend Oregon 4 of my tires have cracks under the letters nearest the

rim and that left front tire is developing very fine cracks 45 degrees to circumference of the tire about

2" from the beed. Well, I make it back to OMC, to have a failed radiator fixed under warranty, and Dave

Remington and Bob say I better not go far on that left front tire. Well while waiting on the radiator I call Paul at Les schwab and we set up an appointment at the Harrisburg CCFI rally. Jon sees them first and

says Michelin will not cover side wall failure, but will try to help as the cracking is becoming an issue on

Michelins that live in in the southwestern US> Well with 80% of the tire life being gone Les Schwab

gave me an Extra 7.5% payback on the original price of the tires. When the tires were removed, there

was no cracking on the inside duals or on the inside of the remaining 6 tires. However the rear tire

exposed to the sun and its mated Tag tire on the other side no cracks either. So four tires were OK,

maybe. Well, I called my dealer in El Paso, to get a price on a mounted set of XZE*. $7000 more or

less. Well Les Scwab wants to put 315's on the front, and in fact all the way around. So I go to Dave

Remington and said they would fit on the front, but that the 295 was so tight he doubted a 315 would

fit. We//, yesterday my coached was jacked up, the shocks were OK and all looked well and 8

Continentals were mounted on 8.25 rims and all was well. I dropped the air turned the front wheels, all

OK. Raised the tag and and checked the duals for clearance and OK there, too. So I inflate the tires to

the placard and drive off. The tires ride as well, but as they have a more aggressive tread with sipes the

XZ2 doesn't have, the Continentals were a touch noisier. We discussed tire inflation and looked at the

wheel rating, 7250 and reduced the air pressure to 112lbs, which is the wheel rating pressure plus 5%

for driving up to 70 mph. If I drive over 71, then the weight load is reduced 12% as I remember.

There's the story, I am back on Continentals, 315's for the same price as ZXE* before the buy back of

the XZ2. The wear on the XZ2's tread is the best I have ever seen on a CC. The duals were perfect with

the tag and front out side land was only down less than a 1/16" from the center. They were quiet,

smooth, the steering just a touch slower than the Toyo. The Continentals are a BUS RV tire, with sipes

and a more aggressive tread which will help on wet roads, though I never felt the ZX2 slide on the

pavement. Oh I got the new inverted tire stems for the outside dual tires and tags and the new

extended stem for the inside duals. They make filling tires so much easier. Am I happy about spending $5800 this year, NO!!!!!!. I had hoped for two more years. But now I have no more tire worries for now.

We took our 2003 Allure for a road trip and the first thing I noticed was that the rear camera was not

working. The light was on when I flipped the switch, but no pic. So I turned it off. Tried it several time, still no pic. When we got home several hours later, the switch light was out when I tried the camera

again. I'm going to look in the files for info. But has anyone else had this problem? Thanks, John 03
