What you thought you knew, you did not....

Two and a half years with our Allure. ISL370. Before purchase, I asked the dealer to confirm if it was CAPS or Common Rail era engine. They came back with a Common Rail system answer.
Doing some research to buy some spare parts to carry, I signed up for Cummins QuickService, entered in the Engine Serial Number. And looking at the Cummins info found out the engine was made in July of 2003. The service model is indicted as CM554. Reading the Cummins site for CM554 ISL info, it comes back as a CAPS.
I was interested in avoiding the many threads of CAPS problems, with both ISC and ISL's of that era. Oh well, did not... And, should have taken the engine number myself and asked Cummins.
I run with OptiLube in every tank. Other then that, any other pearls of wisdom or cautions related to the CAPS era engines? (I did find one post suggesting I confirm, add if not, that a fuel filter is between the tank and the engine fuel system. I'll do that.)
Nothing I can do now, but if I had known - I may have kept looking... Or negotiated a bit differently then I did. I assume the dealer did not look, as I did not either, and went off of the models year of 2004.
Best to all, be safe, have fun,
Smitty
