Hard Water Spots on Clear Coat

The sprinklers in a park we spent several months in left hard water spots on the side of the coach. Washing hasn't removed them and I don't want to use any thing that will damage the finish.

Any good ideas out there?

Vinegar and ammonia will get about 80% of it off with 3 or 4 applications. I got the rest off with Scratch Doctor by New finish. Lots of elbow grease.

Mequairs makes a mild compound called Paint Restorer, that you apply like a wax, let dry and wipe off.

Then if you choose you can apply one of their different waxes. It works great on clear coated surfaces

and removes swirl marks too. It will even touch up the 3M plactic coat on the front of the coach. TWI

I use plastic parts bins available at Home Depot to cover these sprinkler heads in parks like this. When "screwed" to the ground upside down, it only leaves one end open for the water spray to exit. Once you get it on your finish, TR3 will remove it and leave a waxed finish.

I bought a green colored plastic piece at Ace Hardware ( in La Quinta , CA ) that has 2 pieces of metal , that go into the ground to hold it in place. It is like a small bucket cut in half, with spikes at the cut edge. They were pricey at about 7$, but protect the spray from hitting the coach, and don't look too bad. Try the other hardware stores.

Jim - We had the same mess back in our last 8 month stay. All over the back and one side of the bus was covered with calcium deposits from hard water. Acetic acid (vinegar 5%) dissolves calcium. I poured straight vinegar on my wash rag and went to work cleaning. It did a good job but takes about 15 minutes or so to dissolve the calcium and that's in warm weather. You need to keep the surface wet with vinegar. I washed the affected area before and after the vinegar dosing. Elbow grease is definitely the ticket. I didn't think about using ammonia.

Meguiar's makes a Hard Water Spot Remover it is a Marine/RV product. I have found two solutions to these late night sprinklers and one is to get up and move or two have the wife dry down the coach early the next morning. If you have any luck with number two let me know.
