Jerry's C-10

Hi Jerry,

I have not had this problem yet...what 12vdc is shorting out?? And where is this 30A. fuse you checked. I did a search on this website and did not find any previous C-10 problems. Maybe a different website?? How about a bad ground?? Or lazy ignition solenoid??

No, this is definitly a stuck starter. When the starter hangs up it is nearly a dead short thru the starter so the chassis voltage drops to near zero. I tried to bang on it with a hammer to no avail. My engine is still under waranty but I'm 100 miles from Cat service (in EL Paso). I'm going to get a local shop to free it and try to get Cat to fix it under waranty. I don't need this to happen again while I'm on a trip somewhere. jerry in NM, '00 Magna.

Well is my face red. It was low battery voltage all along. I have a weak cranking battery and had drained it further trouble shooting my tow connector. The voltage was so low it would only give me two or three clicks. Since there are three relays involved, I assumed the starter was hung. This morning the voltage was up enough to give me multiple clicks. I hit the boost switch and presto it started. I hope no one else gets this embarassed. jerry in NM, '00 Magna.

You're the only one who's ever done anything wrong!!!
(Did I ever tell you about the time we drove for miles with our toad's emergency brake (fortunately not fully) engaged?)

May your recent mistake be the worst you'll ever make!

No reason to feel embarassed! These are darn complicated machines and besides why is your battery cranking weakly? Is it your fault that their are phantom loads galore, that started solenoids freeze, etc etc.? (Now it is another matter when yours truly wondered why no water was going into the water tank when he had failed to turn on the fill valve when connected to the city water inlet...)
