Remote Fueling

Hi,

Hot off the press is my bit on remote fueling. Link is here:

I have never had to fill my coach that way, but I have been on some job sites that needed fuel and even in the middle of winter had Diesel fuel delivered. Minimum order was 100 gallons. It was cheaper than buying it at the pump, probably because it didn't have road tax. On one job, it was zero degrees on a good day and the fuel came mixed with Kerosene which the Cat Generator seemed to like.
The job site was 110 miles from the nearest town. Seems like they could deliver fuel to your coach the same way.

Mark - It's possible I guess. We set this up for both diesel and water back in 2007 after dumping the house. Had kind of a funky parking and living arrangement before hitting the road and brining in fuel and water really helped. We brought all the filling stuff with us. Haven't transported any water but fuel up often this way. It's extremely easy to do. The most I've transported is 70-80 gallons. Just thought I'd put the information out there for consideration. As for grade, motor fuel may be blended differently than that used in the construction industry. Not sure about that, however. Thanks for the information about fuel delivery. You learn something new everyday.

During my last adventure of severe winter camping in a spot that forbid moving the coach (top of a very steep driveway in upstate New York) I went to the local provider of home heating oil. They informed me that home heating oil is No 2 diesel. They sent their truck up my hill with a delivery. Saved my bacon!
As a side note?.. the first delivery was ex-road tax but they thought better of delivering to a motor vehicle and charged the tax on subsequent deliveries.

Dick - That's good to know for those "just in case" situations. Upstate NY does get some brutal winters. That's also interesting that the heating oil is just #2 diesel. I'm guessing that low sulphur isn't a requirement for home heating oil. Our bus will run on either. Last year for this me thinks.

For the road tax to apply you must be using the vehicle on the public roadways. Logging equipment and farm vehicles use red dye fuel. I can see how the hydro-hot could use a good quantity of fuel over an extended period.

Your point is valid, Dan. However, the coach is a licensed motor vehicle. If inspected and found to have red dye in the fuel, the consequences would be unacceptable. If I should be foolish enough to spend time in that coach in that kind of weather again, I'll just pay the road tax!
