Clearance Lights

Yahoo Message Number: 6216
I had a bulb that burned out on a rear clearance light. When I removed the lens, I was surprised at the amount of water and slim that was inside the lens. I checked the other lights, both front and rear, and found them to be similar. I removed all the lens and cleaned everything and left things to dry in the warm sunlight. When I replaced all of the lenses, I spread a thin layer of silicone sealant over the top of the lens and base where the two join. I hope this will stop or at least reduce the amount of water that gets into the clearance lights. Has anyone had a similar experience and what did you do?

Dave,

I took mine off recently & they were dry, but dirty. Mine have drain holes that appeared to do their job. My coach may have different lights than yours. Check the colored cover & see if there are drain holes. If not I would put one in. A small grinder or drill would do the job. Silicone on top should help but may make it hard to remove next time.

Hope this helps....

Dave, I'm not sure if you mean the clearance lites, as in, small ones that are on both sides of the coach as well as the top front and top back...or if you mean the clearance lites, as in, big lights that are front and back next to the headlites and brake lites. If those, Allure 30322 had the same problem and I just drilled a small hole in the bottom for drainage after checking for obvious gasket problems etc. ...if you mean the small lites mine have small holes in them already...????

Thanks Steve and Ray for your replies. My lenses do not have holes in them. I had thought about putting some holes in them, but I thought it could be a problem on the front/amber lenses. If you are driving the coach in a rain storm, I thought the holes would provide a way for water to be forced into the light assembly.

Just as a side thought, the water is getting into the amber lens from somewhere...like maybe a rain storm, right? Better to get it drained out than allowed to collect..right?...

You're right Ray. I will drill some holes and then evaluate the situation.
Thanks,
Dave
