Hi John,
It depends on a few factors for us. I assume you have a Hydro Hot in vs a water heater in your Allure?
We have the Hydro Hot in our 2004 Allure. So here are a few of the conditions and how we use ours.
-If heading out for the day, we turn off the Diesel (if Water Heater this would be the Propane) -If we have an electic source, we leave this turned on -Overnight, if we do not need the Hydro Hot for heating of the rig, we also turn off the Diesel, and leave on the electic -We usually turn on the diesel, when getting ready of heavy hot water usage. Shower is the main one, but if doing dishes and a load of wash, we kick it on too.
So when we have an electric source that includes the cost of in the site fee, we leave the electic on most of the time. In our coach, we only have on electric heating element, so it can not keep up with heavy usage. The nice thing about the Hydro Hot, is that the Diesel only kicks on when supply demand warrants it.
When boondocking, I turn on the electric each time the generator is running. But most of the time while boondocking, the Diesel supplys the heating demands.
Best of luck on your coach,
Smitty
