Igniton switch left on?

Yahoo Message Number: 84690
This a question for folks with a memory of a twig, like me . . .
I plug in the coach to our 50 amp at home. Later my wife decides she needs to get into the cabinet behind the slide. I suspect on many coaches it's set up like ours, the ignition must be on to open or close the slides (Why they didn't put a momentary switch by the slides switches is beyond me). So as my mind slowly processes worthless garbage in the middle of the night, my eyes flick wide open, did I turn off the ignition switch? Walking out to the RV garage, 28 degrees, middle of the night, lightly dressed, I make a vow to ensure I set up a memory aid so this doesn't happen again. In fact, I did shut it off, and did not remember (there's that twig again).
After all that, I do not know the harm, if any, leaving the switch on for 12-24 hours in a similar situation. Chance of frying a few solenoids? Curious . . .

Hi Lon, Been a while I have been on this group Posting, Happy New Year! In my other life I was a Tech for Cat and had the chance to help our truck shop techs from time to time. Having am older 99 Allure I By Passed the Ign. Key on to operate the slide having charged Batterys all the time and engine not running I can hear all the noise squeeks and cracking sounds it makes operating our single slide also batterys are fully charged when I do this. The old school was run the engine to allow higher charging volts and amps to operate the slide out electrics and Motor. I enjoy your post as its worth sharing and you not alone on this. Depending on what make engine etc. leaving the Ign. key on should not harm anything or in least my other life as a tech never had an issue. Newer electronic diesel engines when conneting a laptop for vewing service codes leaving the key ON is for the norm.for the the laptop. If the key is left on and batterys are not in a state of being charged in time batterys will run down. Chime in other Owners or techs and feel free to jump on my stage! Safe Travels and Thank God we are lucky enough to read this and share our knowledge! Ken Older 99 Allure 30356.
