Re: Going to Niagara Falls this summer Reply #1 – January 20, 2013, 12:06:13 am Yahoo Message Number: 85212We stayed at Branches of Niagara RV Park. A short drive across a toll bridge (toll is only one way and not expensive). Buy the package tickets to go on the Maid of the Mist, the Hurricane Deck, see the movie, etc. Go see the light show at night. Arrive early for parking.Lonny & Diane Livingston '04 Allure #31065 Quote Selected
Re: Going to Niagara Falls this summer Reply #2 – January 20, 2013, 03:58:45 pm Yahoo Message Number: 85219We have camped on both sides. On the US side we stayed at Four Mile Creek state campground on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. The spaces are huge and the price is in the $30s, but they don't have sewer and water at the sites. We filled our water tank on the way in and used their excellent shower facilities which got us through 10 days. On the Canadian side, we stayed at Shalamar Lake in Queenston. It is more of a seasonal park but they do have full hookups for around $40 a day. Either side will work but there is more to see and do on the Canadian side. Some of the things we have done there:1) View the Falls2) Maid of the Mist boat trip3) Wind Cave tour behind the Falls 4) Niagara on the Lake -- a great quaint little town north of NF which has a GB Shaw theater festival in season.5) The Niagara Parkway and the Niagara Gardens -- beautiful drive and Canadian horticulture students fight for the chance to work the gardens.6) Three casinos -- two on the Canadian side and one on the US side.7) Lewiston, NY -- the US version of Niagara on the Lake Clifton Hill -- As kitschy as it gets 9) Skylon Tower for an amazing vista of the Falls and maybe lunch or dinner.10) Butterfly Conservatory11) Bird Kingdom12) Brewpubs -- we like them. There are two in NF and one in St Catharines And there is so much more. We have hardly scratched the surface with the list above. There is a bit of everything there.Gary and Leeanne 2003 Intrigue 11509 http://boonedocksllc.blogspot.com/ Quote Selected
Re: Going to Niagara Falls this summer Reply #3 – January 20, 2013, 04:30:00 pm Yahoo Message Number: 85222We did Campark Resorts this fall and it was good, all the services were good and plenty of room in the RV part of the park.. they also have some full time lots, so keep with the daily/weekly. It was a 5 minute ride to the views and fun.Couple of things to watch out for....1. Returning to the USA over Rainbow bridge they have one RV lane for their interrogation booth... this lane is very tight, and the pavement is slanted (up from level) to allow the agent to look in the vehicles easier. This slanting tips your RV to the right several inches up at the top elevation. At the end of the lane they have huge steel enclosures that contain some electronic surveillance ( X-ray ?) devices that are close to the lane. Even with being very careful leaving the toll both at a slow crawl my rig was close enough to the steel column to catch and rip off the door awning and ruin the big awning. Not a good way to go thru customs. Had to pull over and remove the small awning and secure the large one right in the exit area of the customs area. Very costly and time consuming situation. Just now getting all the damage repaired and repaint the area's affected. You may want your navigator to be outside guiding you thru this maze. The inspector was guiding us but only looked at the tire/curb relationship, not the top of the rig. YIKES 2. Dont use your phone or hot spot anywhere near the Canada border, this could bring you a huge bill when you get home. We did this on the US side and I spent months fighting Verizon for this.. even on the US side they were able to hijack my phone usage and bill me huge amounts.TURN OFF ANY PHONES-COMPUTERS-ETC ....The falls and the area were beautiful and its a good visit......Jerry and Meredith Moore 10 Scenic WayMiddletown, NJ 07748 jmoorepb@... 732-233-4797 2005 Inspire 40' #512412012 Jeep GC FMCA F29186blog http://autocadddesignservice.com/wordpress/ Quote Selected
Re: Going to Niagara Falls this summer Reply #4 – January 20, 2013, 04:50:43 pm Yahoo Message Number: 85223Gerry Not sure that your terminology is appropriate. A Canadian cell phone also gets "Hijacked " by a Verizon tower, when in Canada near the US border in the Niagara region. I don't think technology has yet been developed to have the cell phone towers exactly match the border in the middle of the Niagara River. I doubt that the Canadian tower you connected with specifically wanted to "hijack " you phone signal. It probably had a stronger signal than the closest Verizon tower and your phone connected to that tower. That one should watch usage near the complete US border with Canada, is however, good advice. I had the same issue near Detroit. It also applies near Mexico. I talked with a fellow who had the same issue near Tijuana.Ron Baran 09 Magna 7025 Quote Selected
Re: Going to Niagara Falls this summer Reply #5 – January 20, 2013, 05:00:23 pm Yahoo Message Number: 85224Ron,Hijacked is a strong word (there are other words, but I couldn't use them on this forum-LOL), but it took way too much time and effort to get a reasonable solution to this costly situation.. After many phone calls and many different people Verizon allowed me to retroactively sign up for Canada access for the amount of time and then they would refigure the bill accordingly... As a customer we have very little help us get a fair shot at this...IT IS WHAT IT IS...DONE.Jerry MooreAuto Cadd Design Service LLC 10 Scenic WayMiddletown, NJ 07748 phone 732-671-6080 mobile 732-233-4797 fax 732-671-5860 email jmoorepb@... email jmoorepb@... email jmoorepb@...www.autocadddesignservice.comblog http://autocadddesignservice.com/wordpress/ Quote Selected
Re: Going to Niagara Falls this summer Reply #6 – January 20, 2013, 10:55:46 pm Yahoo Message Number: 85238Brian,We stayed at AA Royal Motel & Campground North Tonwanda , NY 14120. Only about 10-12 miles from the falls. We also visited the water lake locks for the Erie canal coming out of Lake Ontario. Not far from the locks is a church with some beautiful Tiffany windows worth the stop.Jock Vargo 2005 Inspire 51428 Quote Selected
