Insurance information

I have seen many statements about insurance on our owners group and want to respond with our experiences. We initially went with National General Insurance (GMAC) after discussing the company's practices with the California Insurance Commissioner's office - they rated GMAC as the #2 insurance company in California at the time ~1996.

We went with National General (GMAC now) and changed to Progressive after a couple of years. For the next two years, we got regular significant rate increases until we dumped them and returned to GMAC.
We insure all of our vehicles (coach, Jeep, mini van) with them and love them! They are quick to respond and support us very well. I was injured in an auto accident in 2001 and GMAC called us immediately to cover my medical bills (which ended up at $100K plus). This prevented us being held hostage by the other insurance company (AAA) who wanted to settle before I could walk... Oh yes, the accident was the other person's fault!

I don't know why they are such a secret but we have had wonderful experience with GMAC. They are highly regarded by our state insurance commissioner, they are quick to respond, they are not abusive with rate hikes, they don't charge us extra as full timers.
