Changing inside step light

I have all the burned out lights replaced but one the inside step light, how do you get to the lamp. I tried to remove the round small cover but no luck. It looks like it should just pop off but the more i pry on it the worse it looks. The wife said that first and last step is a killer, so any help on this would be great, Thanks.

To remove ours, I remove two screws and "pry" the cover off, the lens is held in to the fixture by an expanding metal collar. No idea why yours isn't similar.

Fuse is in weatherproof cover in battery bay....go figure.

I will remove the 2 screws again and try to pry that cover off, hope it works.

Not at my coach but I thought I removed the complete assembly. Go to Kaper2.com; products, specialty lamp, courtesy lamps. I replaced my step lamp with this led light and it works great.

I just replaced the same one and the light under the steps a couple of days ago. Mine had two screws holding the lense in. When I removed the two screws the metal backing plate was somewhat stuck to the carpeting but came off without much difficulty. I replaced both with LED lights because when the door is open they are both on continous and get quite warm not to mention the wattage.

Well got the cover off and it was stuck on real good and the bulb is good with the door open the under the step light is on but that line to the bulb is dead check with a 12 volt line tester. If the fuse is in the battery bay there is one that is marked 7.5 amp and one marked 20 amp, why would the under step light work (if) they are on the same line.

If the fuses are good, and there is no power at the bulb, I would look at the switch in the door jamb as the next (easiest) fix, second would be the wiring to the light.
I seem to remember that Kevin Waite stocks the switches....but he is enjoying the weather in Florida currently (so I do not know if he can ship from there).

I did check both fuses and they are good, had to pull out the batteries today no rain and get that bay clean up and repainted may work on if it does not rain, will look at the wiring again the bulb checked out good with a meter. Will look at the door jam also, Thanks.

The step light is controlled by the step controller in my 07 Inspire. I've attached a schematic that may help.

Also, on mine when I open the door the light will come on for a certain amount of time then it will go off, even with the door open. I haven't timed how long it stays on but I am sure it's at least 5 minutes. If you are checking for voltage after that there will be none unless you open and close the door again to reset the light.

Are your steps working as they should, moving in and out?
It's possible the controller was damaged when you shorted the light socket?

Thanks for the schematic. The steps work the way they should. The small yellow light under the step comes on the 2 fuses in the battery bay are good. Everything works the way it should just no power to that light. Will have to wait tell the rain stops.
Will report back when I do some more checking.

I did a little more checking on my coach and the fuse that feeds the controller and step light is in the electrical bay below the driver. I've attached another picture. The fuse, actually it's a circuit breaker, is number 7 and it's rated at 20 amps. But I think if this was the problem the steps would not work either. When I pull this breaker the step light goes out.

The two fuses in the chassis battery bay are for the engine/transmission electronics. The two fuses in the house battery bay didn't seem to have any connection to the step light as it stayed on when I disconnected them.
