2006 DaVinci 40'

Yahoo Message Number: 86050
Just purchased today a 2006 DaVinci 40' with 46000 miles.and was hoping for any interactive comments about my choice.
It has been garaged all its life, and for the most part, it's in excellent looking condition both inside and out.
I am having an indepenent RV service center go over it for any unseen issues. They say that will take three days. It hasn' been driven in 8 months.
The only blip on the paint is the paint on the bedroom slide. Covering this entire area are tiny hard bumps imbedded in the paint. Has anyone seen this before in such an localized area. The dealer(consignment lot) has had the unit for 8 months, and they say that it hasn't worsened since then. An rv service center wants $1500 to strip, seal paint and coat the slide.
Thanks for any comments,
Jim

Congratulations on your new coach. I've had those paint "bumps" on my slide trim since i bought my coach and they look the same as they did back in 2004. Happy trails...

Hi Jim - congrats!! I owned a 40 foot DaVinci Inspire and had very few issues - one, tho, was overheating when climbing even short inclines even if I would increase the rpms... after several trucking places trying to figure it out as there were no engine fault indicators present, the technicians said the fan was set on a timer so that it gradually increased in intensity - he reprogrammed it to start up running high and stay that way --- that resolved my overheating situation....simple fix, but it was a worrisome situation on numerous occasions for me.
And I did have a few of the paint situations you describe, but I apologize for not being able to give you any input on this as I traded my Inspire last August. Which consignment RV dealer are you working with, if I might ask?

You may email me privately if you wish.... jan

Jim,

We too have the bumps on our rear slide and they have not changed in the last 6 years we have had the coach.
Talking to a car painter he indicated when CC painted the coach originally they had to have had water in there spray gun as that is what he thought they are. As during the painting application the water came out in the form of bubbles and stuck to the slide and then the paint was applied over them and now we have the bumps.

Without seeing your "paint bumps", the only thing that comes to mind is the paint checking which started showing up in the mid 2000's. Many coaches from that era with dark colors, black being the worst, will have some. Someone with more info on this can correct me, but I think it had something to do with the fiberglass supplied by Dow at the time and when dark color paints were applied it would get so hot in the sun this paint checking would occur. I am not sure if any Coach manufacturers were not part of this mess, but Country Coach definitely had plenty of it. I am not sure what kind of surface prep can be done in a repaint to keep it from being reoccurring. But perhaps some other member knows more about it, if they have had their own paint corrected.
In our own case on our own coach, we have all light colors with the darkest being a bronze. And mostly cream, gold and beige. So not sign of it on our coach, however a friend with the identical year make and model coach in darker colors has evidence of this paint checking. Most knowledgeable salesmen know about it and will tell you more if questioned but are unlikely to bring it up unless you ask. We looked at a beautiful 06 Magna in Quartzsite last month and it had a lot of it and the salesman never mentioned it showing us the rig until I spotted it at a certain angle in the sun and asked and then he acknowledged, yes it had paint checking common dark painted motorhomes of this vintage.

We have an 06 Inspire with the paint pimples on on the living room slide. Had some fogged windows repaired last spring, and I might have figured out the problem. Where the windows were cut out, the living room slide shows it being made out of a solid core material rather than a fiberglas plywood laminate like the others. I believe CC had different suppliers of the sldes. The only pimple problem on our coach is the side that appears to be made differently from the others. Is this the law suite problen that happened a few years ago? Ned Herrmann

Hi Jim, the bumps in the paint were caused by the fiberglass not curing properly before the slide was painted. CC was outsoursing slides for awhile and the vendor has since gone out of business. I've had the same bumps in my front driver's side slide for 6 years and they haven't gotten any worse so I haven't bothered having the slide re-painted.

Well if that is true then Tiffen and Monaco must have been using the same painter. Also, the flaws are significantly worse if your coach is stored inside or outside and especially in hot climates.

Congrats Jim, we have a 2007 DaVinci and my only advice is to make sure the PTO has been modified with a "wet kit". We love ours and know you will love yours too.
