2003 TRC Surge Guard 50AMP, with key. Is key a bypass?

Yahoo Message Number: 86804
Hi Gang,

I've had some work done on the generator, again, and when pluggin the rig in at home, the surge guard is not allowing power to flow. It being Easter, I was told to not work on it today.... So, I snuck out and looked behind a side rear cabinet where the Surege Guard is installed on our coach. Could not read the text (needed my reading glasses) but saw some red ligths on. It is a 34560 model.
It has a key in it, so I turned the key in a different direction, and power flowed into the coach. Is this a bypass keyed swithc?
I'll poke around some more on Monday, but was wondering if you knew what this switch does.
May have just needed to reset the unit, after all of the electrical work.

Inverter works and sends in power off of the batteries.
I have a hughes autoformer downstream from the TRC, so left the rib powered up, as I'm doing a AC test on 1200.

Best to all, and Happy Easter!

Smitty,

You are correct. The key triggers a bypass of the sensed problem.

Smitty:

The key is used to "Bypass" the Surge Guard but it is never good idea to do this because the Surge Guard is your protection before power gets to the Transfer Switch.

The bypass key bypasses the high/low voltage protection function but does not effect the surge protection function.

Thanks to you all for responding on Easter. I'll chect TRC site for a manual download, as I do not have one.
Hope the unit was just a bit confused by the last few months of work.
I do have the Hughes RV450 inline after the TRC unit, so have some protection. And, plugged into my homes power, that I have used for over 6 years with two RV's.

Will poke around some on Monday.

I think I'm OK now. I unplugged the coach, turned the Surge Guard bypass key back to normal (off, so I would get over/under protection). Then plugged the coach back in, waited the minute or so for the tests to be run, and 'click' (well, the loud 'thunk') of the transfer switch kicking in. Power flowing again.
I'll do a few more cycles over the next few days to be sure all is OK. Suspect everything just got confused by all of the electrical work going on.
Thanks again for your input on a Easter Day. And a thanks to Kevin, who also sent me a PDF of the manual (or one close enough to give me good info) - saved me from surfing for it.
Now I can keep testing and checking on the fridge 1200, that is not seeming to cool to the levels it used to. (Fridge is at 36 after 24 hours, but the freezer is just over 20. This is on AC mode, which is a seems better then the LP mode cools. I'm going to clean/maintain the oriface next, look for any signs of problems or rust, then do some more testing of the unit.)

Best to all,
