I would like to take my 04 Inspire on the Blue Ridge Parkway,I've checked tunnel clearances some being tight, also a warning clearances may vary 1 to 6 inches. I was wondering if anyone has traveled this Hwy. Thank You Bill 51166

Bill,

The clearances vary because the overpasses are arched.

Can't help you with details but there is a program for your GPS which will warn you ahead of time based on height parameters you install. I believe it's at lowclearance.com.

We did it last year, but parked the coach and enjoyed the rife in the toad. Much more enjoyable andwewere able to pull off and enjoy the sites so much easier. Not a lot of pull offs easy for the coach.

Bill,

We have traveled the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway in a Wanderlodge we used to own. The tunnel heights are, I think, based on the road edge height rather than the road middle. All of the tunnels are arched. Some made me very nervous but we never made contact.
The overhanging tree growth is another matter. Much contact with that. Particularly with the CB antenna.

I'm not going to make the trip again.

We purchased a nifty little tool called Strait-line used by a lot of realtors. It uses a laser beam to measure the distance between any two points. It only cost about $20 and it can easily help, m,e avoid thousands of dollars of damage. We use it in fuel stations where overhead heights are suspect and not marked. I know my height is 12'9 but if I approached a low bridge I would certainly consider pulling off to the side and walked ahead aqnd measuring the height with the tool rather than take a chance. Cheap insurance.
