Inside step

I have read other posts about how others have fixed their floor step (the one that moves), but I have been unable to make it work. When I push the rocker switch to make it move, you can hear the motor, but it does not move. I have had the switch being push and pulled on the step but I it will not come out. I moved the generator out and tried to follow any wires to a micro switch, but been unable to ID these wires. Is there any way to get at the motor without the step being out? Or there any other idea on how to make it work until I get home? Thanks

I'm assuming you're talking about your step cover. If the motor is running, I think the micro-switches are working? It sounds like the linkage has somehow become disconnected, assuming it has a integral motor gearbox, maybe it's bad? To get to the linkage, you must remove a fairly large rectangle panel underneath the floor, accessible from under the front of the coach. Once removed, you can see the drive-shaft type linkage where it attaches to the stepcover. If you can't open/close the step cover by hand, I would think the linkage is still connected. Access to the motor on my coach was behind, the fusebox in the electrical bay. I had to carefully remove the whole metal fuse box without removing any wires. Easy motor access then.

I have a 1996 Intrique, that the stair well cover does not work also. Any info is appreciated. It will pull out by hand, as if it has been disconnected from whatever was supposed to move it.

I had no power to my steps, I tapped the long shaft housing in the driver side front compartment with a hammer and it started working. Fellow CC owner told me that should work and it did.

The system did not put in my normal signature. I have a 07Allure. Everything seems to be connected, as I can not make it move out. It was working prior to this trip, so I have no idea right now why it is not working. Since we are parked on dirt and rock at this RV park, I'm not going to crawl under the MH. Do you have a metal cover on the side of the step cover? (You can see what I am talking about in the first picture.) If so, remove the screws, mine has 6, and the cover will come off. You should be able to see the drive motor and gearbox from there.

You didn't say what coach you have. On our Affinity, the motor and the actuating mechanism is in the front compartment with the fuses, mounted underneath the floor. I had t take it apart a couple of times--the set screw had loosened , which allowed the motor to turn without moving the step. I disconnected the step actuating arm from the step itself, and by loosening a couple of bolts and disconnecting the electrical wires, I took the whole assembly out. Second time I got a good fix!

Hi Dave,

Our step had a similar problem. Scott cleaned the aluminum rails very well and lubricated them with a small amount of silicone spray. This allowed him to be able to get the step out. With the step cover out he could get underneath it from the inside and lubricate the rack gear.
