NORCOLD 1200 QUESTION

2004 Intrigue Ser# 11826

Problem: Twice I have left a camp sight with the refrigerator thermometer
showing 32 degrees. While traveling with the gas on the fridge will warm up
to the high 50's. Took it to a Norcold service center to be checked out and
they found nothing wrong with it. When I left the dealer today (fridge empty) the
temp was 32 degrees. After a 90 mile trip I checked it and it had warmed up
to 58 degrees. This has happened twice. Dealer checked gas pressure and
LP system pertaining to the fridge and said they found no problem. There were
no codes displayed when I got home. I have gas but I did not check to see if

the burner was on

Any ideas as to the possible problem would be appreciated.

We had the same problem with our 1200. Because of the pressure dif while traveling down the road ( outside vs inside ) the unit can have hot air move into the inside of the frig. On the back of the 1200, drain tube, ice maker wires and water tube where the dumb dumb had fallen out. Also the door seal can be an issue. Of course, make sure your gas is working by stopping at a rest area and checking tube temps. Leaving a window cracked open will help with the pressure issue. The 1200 just doesn't have much room to overcome efficiency looses. We now have a 197 Samsung and the Norcold prblems are gone.

Also check all your connection to the control board. Turn the frig off and disconnect and reconnect all the blade type connections. Once you remove the control panel cover, you can saw off the three lower plastic bar for easier access.

While on battery power make sure your fans are working.

I had the exact same problem. It was fixed by Norcold under warranty.
The issue was improper sealing of the cooling unit - between the cooling unit and the box itself. The remedy was to remove the fridge, remove the cooling unit, reseal the perimeter of the cooling unit, and reinstall. Your Norcold service center should have known about this defect.
Someone else mentioned mitigating the problem by opening a window while underway. That worked for us also. By opening the galley window about 2", the inside and outside pressures equalized. The suction caused by being underway went away, and the rise in fridge temperature was minimized. That was a work-around only - - not a cure for the cause of the air leak.
If you are going to go the route of remove-reseal-reinstall, you might give thought to replacing the cooling unit. You will likely be dismayed by the condition of the Norcold cooling unit.

I went the Amish route, but only recently.

My Norcold 1200 would cool ok on either gas or 120v when parked, however would warm up to the 60's in fridge section section when traveling.
I am putting in a Samsung 197. When I pulled the Norcold out I noticed there was sealer was missing around the hole that the water line and wires go to the ice maker. I could see daylight through the hole.

Think that would be enough to cause my cooling loss when traveling?
