Best Route to take driving to Maine

Hello,

Have heard nightmares about driving North to Boothbay, Maine and would like some suggestions on how to by-pass the big cities of Hartford and Boston along our way (if that is even possible) We will be leaving from Wilkes Barre, PA going through Danbury, CT. We want to avoid 95 for sure. We are driving a 43 foot Inspire.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
