Stairs

We are the proud owners of a new (to us) Country Coach Aspire. I have a question for you CC owners.
What is the secret in getting the stairs to retract when we park and lock our MH? They retrack just fine when the engine is running.
Also, am I suppose to include the 1st 5 digits of my VIN or the last in my signature? Can someone explain what the digits mean in the VIN please.

Welcome to the group. 3,000 of us are here to answer any questions you may have about your, new to you, coach.
To answer your second question: The serial number we are looking for is the Country Coach serial number, not VIN. It can be found on the listing of appliances and serial numbers, etc, located on the door of the medicine cabinet.

We are fairly new as well Judy and have basically come to the conclusion that the entry steps are possessed! :-)
On my coach there is a rocker switch on the left as you walk in that will leave the steps out when the door is open or closed (with engine off). Turning the engine on trumps everything and retracts them anytime the door is closed and the engine is running.

After you leave the RV and are standing on the ground (don't ask), there is a step toggle switch inside the door. Press the top of the switch where it says "step" Once you close the door the step should retract.
When you return to the RV, open the door, reach inside and press the toggle switch for the step to the "off" position.
Note: having the key on will retract the step regardless of the position of the toggle switch!

There is a rocker switch, usually next to the passenger seat as you exit. there should be a light switch and step switch at least. push it opposite of what it is now and shut the door. The outside step should retract...if all is working properly. Each coach has it own #...it can be found in several places. Next to the front door on a plate, on a sheet of paper glued to a cabinet door, sometimes in the bathroom or closet door..just need to look around. Happy to have you with the group...

Just to add another point... Opening the door "trumps" the ignition on or off. In other words you shouldn't be able to open the door and not have steps available (although not fast).

Another related item. On our 2004 Intrigue the step power comes from the chassis power but some of the circuit must be on the house side. I used to wonder why when I parked, opened the door, step came out, then turned the 12volt house off by the front door, close the door, but the step would not go back in nearly all of the time.
It seemed pretty quirky, till I found out for mine at least, that sequence for storage (not just parking) is to get out, close the door, step goes back in, turn off the chassis and then return to the door, open, step will not come out and then turn off the House 12v switch, close the door and lock. You can also just turn off the step and jump out, but I'm getting too old for that.
