Battery question 2000 Magna

I have a 2000 Magna and the house batteries keep seeping acid from the fill holes. The Chassis bat seem fine. They are 8D batt. 2 for house and 2 for Chassis. I dont know how old they are but they work good other than the Acid comming out. We took a 4000 mi trip a few months ago and even when traveling they get wet with Acid. Even when pluged in they seep out. I dried them off before I hit the road, and after 400 mi I checked them and they were wet again. I had them check out and was told they were good. I dont get it? Is there a setting on my Inverter? It is a 2000 Magna. I dont see any way to set the Inverter. Any suggestions? Also if it is the Batt, can I use Gel Batt's in that year Bus? Thanks for your time. The batteries are probably being charged at too high of a rate. If you limit the charging rate they will probably quit outgassing and causing your problem. Interstate Batteries told me the best rate of charge is about 10 amps per battery. You can limit your rate of charge on the remote inside the coach. If you don't know how to do that respond with the info on which remote you have.

Hi Skip, I don't think I have a remote in the Coach to adjust my inverter??? If I do have one were would it be? I only see the inverter under the Coach. Maybe you can tell me were to look? Thank's for your time and help. Can I call you? Ray

To adjust the charger from inside won't do anything. This is because when the coach is running, it connects the engine alternator to both sets of batteries. Also, there isn't any 110v ac to operate the charger. This is how it was explained to me by CC
I switched to 6 volt US Batt 2000xc and the problem is still there and have recently put the fill caps on it but haven't traveled anywhere so don't know if it helps. The fill caps eliminate the need to peer down into the battery and chance getting acid vapor in your eyes. So wear goggles when you do this. Also the rear caps are very hard to see down into them.
The engine alternator is probably 150amps so the batteries are getting at least 30 amps each. I also think that the position that CC put them in behind the wheels subject them to more vibration. Some year Magnas have the batteries closer to the fuel tank. Maybe a better location.
Don't have an answer but maybe this will help some of you. I ruined a pair of pants with battery acid so wear old clothes.

As someone else stated make sure the water is not overfilled. Do you have a meter, DVM? if so check the voltage with battery at rest, no power connected or engine running.
they recheck with coach plugged and then again with only engine running, unplugged. Voltage should be around 12.5 if fully charged at rest and 13.5 when power applied. They should not exceed 14.5 when charging.
Do NOT change to agm until you figure out if everything is working correctly as you will ruin the agm batteries.

This is only partially true. If your batteries are not low they won't get charged at to high of a rate which causes outgassing. If your batteries need charging when you start your engine your alternator will try to charge them as fast as it can. I try not to take off somewhere with my batteries low because I don't want to cause my alternator to overheat and damage itself trying to charge my six 8D batteries or to damage the batteries charging them at to high of a rate. I use my generator to top off the charge on my batteries before I leave if I'm not connected to shore power. If you limit the charge rate on your remote it will keep them from excessive outgassing when charging and with a little for thought you can eliminate damaging your alternator and batteries by not allowing it to try to do a bulk charge on all of those big batteries. The alternator might charge all of those big batteries a few times but it is a lot better for your alternator and batteries if you to let the coach's battery charger do it's job.

One thing I have observed is it seems battery's weep or gas more as they get older. My last set seemed to be more wet on top as they got older and when I changed them out the new ones were fine. Also the old set used water. How old are your battery's?

When filling these batteries you fill only half way between the plates and the "fill circle". Usually about 3/8 of an inch of water above the plates.

If they are overfilled they will do exactly what you are saying.
Since they do it when driving and plugged in that would be the first thing I would check.

Filling batteries

Napa and other parts house sells a bottle for filling batteries. It looks like a water pitcher with a automatic nozzle that goes into the battery fill hole and when the battery is full it stops. No over filling no trying to see if its full and no mess. I would also say distilled water is a must.along with making sure your charger is set to your battery type.
