Can someone please enlighten me as to when, the Allison economy mode switch should be utilized, also when it should not be utilized.

Thanks.

I have a '05 Allure #31125 and apparently don't have the economy mode. Where would this switch be? I do have one vacant spot on my switch panel.

Was told once by an allison tech that it works best on flat or low rolling hills. Mine is located at the upper RH corner of my allison controls and is labeled "MODE".

We attended the Cummins Come Home Rally in September and the Cummins technicians said to use the economy mode unless you are in steep mountains. After we left there we did as they recommended and it seemed to shift better with less effort.
Note: Anyone who has a Cummins engine can attend the rally in Columbus Indiana. We joined the Cummins Power Club and save 10% on most parts and service at Cummins locations. The Cummins Come Home Rally was free except you pay for the RV park at CERALand the Cummins Employee Recreation Area. You can also stay at the RV park as you travel unless they have a special event for Cummins Employees like July 4th.

The way I understand it, the economy mode allows the transmission to upshift from 4th to 5th sooner and remain there longer than normal so that the engine RPMs remain lower more often/longer, producing better mileage. The system won't allow the engine to "lug" too much to overheat and stress out the engine. They say to set it for economy mode on fairly level roads and minor hills. I leave mine on all the time (if I remember to set it) even in the Rocky Mountains. My coach doesn't even come close to overheating thanks to our unreliable fan controllers. Temps run about 185-190 in the summer, and I saw it at 200 only once in the mointains.

In Economy Mode when the Light is on.

Per Cummins factory techs: Works best on interstate driving not in mountains. Hills OK. Not for use in stop and go traffic in town. Works best when used with cruise control.
