1999 Allure with straight axle.

Mike,

The IFS has a much sharper turning angle than the straight axle so is more maneuverable in tight spaces. I have seen reports that the IFS also is smoother riding, a jar on one side is not transferred to the other side.
I haven't driven the straight axle but can assure you that the IFS is really sweet to drive.

I owned my straight axle Allure for 6 years and my IFS Intrigue coach for almost 10. With the right tire a straight axle coach drives as well as the IFS. Maneuvering is a different story, I take my 42 ft coach places my 36 ft coach that measured closer to 38 could never go with out disconnecting the car. The intrigue is a little quieter than the Allure was from front end road noise, but thats not the axle. The Intrigue wanders less but thats a function of the Tag axle and which tires you choose. If you hit a hazard either system can pull the wheel out of your hand. I always felt there was a bigger difference in handling with the tires you choose versus the type of front end. Stoping the 42, though heavier is much easier. Must be the larger tires and the brakes on the tag. I watched a guy roll his toyota truck in front of me one time and the Allure would have run over the Guy. The Intrigue with braking on the Odessey stopped on a dime saving me, mine, and the coach. Unfortunately the driver of the pickup tried to take on a Kentucky tree and lost.
