KOA Cortez, CO

I have a normal, maybe abnormal, aversion to KOA's in general but last night we stayed at the Cortez KOA and to my surprise in was a really nice RV park.. Friendly staff, beautiful grounds, a small 4-5 acre lake with geese floating about, sites were spacious, the place was clean and rates were comparable to others in the area. We would deffinately stayd there again. This post is for those with the same aversion as I.

In all my years of RVing this is the first time I have seen a good report on a KOA. I have the same aversion to KOAs.

We have stayed at many KOA's that were great and reasonably priced. We have also stayed at some that weren't so nice or were way overpriced. KOA is not our first choice if we can find something for the same price or less that suits our needs. We start with Corps of Engineers parks with W/E or FHU, then state parks, then commercial campgrounds. Sometimes KOA is the only option without going out of our way. I think KOA needs more consistency in the quality of their parks and management.

I TOTALLY agree with the comments regarding the inconsistency of quality for the KOA's and their rate structure. A good example is I called the Cordele, GA KOA today to reserve a site for later this week. I was told their rate was $46 (higher than any other parks in the area) and then after telling them I needed a site near the pool so the granddaughters could have easy access to swim, I was told there was an additional charge of $5 for children. Needless to say, I told them we would stay elsewhere. I reserved a pool side site at Twin Oaks in Elko, GA (I-75 exit 127) for $38 with no up charge for the children.

Thanks, Lyle. Thank you! Is Cortez in Utah? We have a bit of the same aversion to KOA parks too, but have stayed at one in northern TN on our way south from MN, and it's always very nice and I think somewhat fairly priced. We do enjoy things being nice. Thank you, and you are Samsung guy who helped us figure out how to work on installing it.

The San Diego KOA is one of the most beautiful with very friendly workers, and we have in 100's in the last twenty years. The entire atmosphere is superb.

One that has always cracked me up is KOA touts itself as the "family" campground but then charges by the child! I know they have to draw the line somewhere but at least 2 included! We don't travel with kids anymore but I understand KOA generally caters to that crowd with activities for the kids. Some would say then those without kids are paying for them anyways. Except you are paying for them because all the infrastructure is there and costs money that you are paying towards. I also find that most of us that don't travel with kids gp elsewhere and when in a park that has lots of kid activities we park further away from the playgfrounds and ball fields so we can all enjoy our time.
