ISL370 CAPS - Lift Pump leak?

I posted this also under the IRV2 Cummins section, but as location of auxilary equipment varies per chassis and coach builder, I thought I'd also come to the CC Mother Ship to ask too.

Cut and paste of the other post:

I have the ISL370 CAPS in a Country Coach Dynomax chassis.
In a campground with email and web browsing WiFi only, and barely that at timesSmile! (On Cassiar, between Dease Lake and Stewart.) So not way to post a picture.
As I look into the engine bay, on the back left (driver side) of the engine, I see something that looks to be mounted to a chassis frame. This has evidence of leakage, not much, and not enough to see any drips. I have only partial view from this angle, and cannot see the all of this piece of equipment, to see if fuel lines go in/out of it.
I suspect it is the 'Lift Pump', and that the ULSD has finally broken down the gasket. (This is a pre ULSD engine, and gasket failure is a common side effect of ULSD, as I understand it.)
Does anyone have any other thoughts of what this could be, if not a Lift Pump?
When we get to location that I can try to crawl around some from underneath to get a view, I will, and that should confirm if it has fuel lines in/out. But, that maybe three days from now.
Final opinions please, on if it is a broken down gasket on the Lift Pump. As long as it is not leaking bad, do you feel it is OK to just monitor and repair when back home from this trip?

Hi Smitty, On my 2003 Allure ISL 370 (chipped to 400) looking inside the engine bay looking towards the front of the coach, both the Lift Pump and CAPS (Cummins Accumulator Pump System) which mean High Pressure Fuel Pump, they are both located on the Right Side (Passenger Side) of Engine.

However, since your coach is a 2004, I am surprised your ISL engine has the CAPS system and not the Cummins Common Rail High Pressure Fuel system which is controlled by each of your six (6) Fuel Injectors. Which took the place of the CAPS system shortly after the 2003 model year of Allures and Intrigues.

I had to replace my leaking LIFT PUMP and my CAPS pump was replaced under warranty at 36,000 mi, and then at 100,000 miles I had to replace 3 components of the CAPS Pump 1. Injection Control Valve, 2. Injection Control Valve Stator, 3. Transient Suppressor

Hi Smitty,I forgot to tell you that if you have to replace your Lift Pump please tell your shop to order the "O'Ring Kit" as well, can you believe that if you just purchased the Lift Pump it doesn't come with the "O Rings" that our new fuels are killing.

On my 03 Intrigue, the lift pump is mounted just above the starter motor, when mine was leaking, I found the mounting bolts (2 or 3 can't remember) were a little loose. I tightened them and the leaking stopped, been good for about 3 years.

I'd say that is the coolant boost pump for the dash heater. I had to change mine a couple years ago. My lift pump is on passenger side above starter. You should watch the coolant leak because it can turn into a show-stopper if it turns into a major leak. Some have by-pass the pump and reported good dash heat W/O the boost pump.

I was thinking maybe something to do with the hydrohot engine loop? When I can get under it, will look for hoses. The bypass maybe what I'll need to do, if it gets any worse.

Good morning,

I read your post about tightening mounting bolts and it stopped the leaking.

We have a 2003 CC Intrigue with Cummins 400 engine and had it in for inspection (in Virginia) -- told that the engine is leaking. We just had the air dryer filter replaced -- could that have anything to do with it?

Questions:

what engine do you have?

where did you find your bolts?

Any information you can share is greatly appreciated.

Well this is a good example of me not practicing what I suggest!! Unless I missed it, I never reported what we found out. Sorry, and glad to see another response about the bolt tightening, to prompt me to do so.

The quick answer is my lift pump was not involved in this. It was the valve that routes the hot fluid lines up to the front of the cab for the OTR heater. The valve itself was fine, it was the hose clamps coming loose enough to allow some slight leaking, which with the dust of the ALCAN to aid, was easy to see as darker sections in the dusted equipment.

I had all of the hoses on the coach replaced as preventative maintenance, and the four months trip to Alaska was enough to allow the clamps to work a bit loose.

Nice gent took a look at it for me, and suggested we just snug up the clamps and that I keep an eye on this over the next few days to confirm the valve itself had no leaks. I did, it did not, and all is OK.
