Problem with Rooftop AC while on Generator

Yahoo Message Number: 96884
I have an 2005 inspire. Unfortunately we don't get to use it nearly enough but I have noticed that when I'm plugged into shore power, both ac's work great. However, when on generator, the front ac compressor will not start. Fan works as expected but no compressor start. No other power issues on generator observed. This condition would lead me to suspect a start capacitor. Has anyone experienced this? Is there something else I should look for?

Thanks

First thing I would do is check the voltage on the output side of the breaker that feeds that A/C.

Will the front AC unit work when on the genset if the rear AC unit is off?
Does the front AC unit work when on the mains with the rear unit off?

Have you checked the function of the transfer switch?

Jim, the front compressor will not start under any conditions while on generator (fan motor works normally). Unit Works fine while on shore power. I've checked the voltage in the past without any noticing appreciable drops of difference. I'll check it again this week and get exact numbers for comparison.

If the AC pump starts when you're on the mains the start cap(s) are OK. I would check the voltages at the transfer switch.

Also check c/b on genset should be 2 of them. Trip them both and reset.
