Spare Tire/MVPA convoy

Yahoo Message Number: 97130
Has anyone attempted to locate a spare tire for your coach? I run 10 R 22.5 tires that are difficult to locate in remote areas. Can anyone help me locate a spare tire and rim (22.5X7.50) or point me towards a tire vendor. The coach is currently in Northern CA.

Next year I will undertake an 8,000 mile trip (got to have a spare tire) from CA to DC to San Diego for the MVPA convoy towing my WW II Jeep that I will drive in the convoy with my "team".

"The Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) is underway with detail planning to conduct a 95th Anniversary Convoy with as many as 120 Historic Military Vehicles that will retrace the original 1920 Transcontinental Motor Convoy route - along the Bankhead Highway. The MVPA 2015 Bankhead Convoy ("BH-15"?) will launch from Washington, DC on Saturday, 19 September and arrive in San Diego, CA some 29 days later, on Saturday, 17 October. The participants shall use this opportunity to say "thank you" to all military vets and families. We will also team up and promote the "Spirit of 45" along the entire Convoy route." https://www.facebook.com/MVPAConvoy
If you would like to participate you must be a current MVPA member (www.mvpa.org) and have a historic military type vehicle to run with your "team" in the convoy. My CC will be my support bus and provide housing (no more GI tent camping for this VN Vet).

Signup with coact-net for $140 a year, they will take care of any tire needs, or any needs for that matter. You will not be able to change it yourself anyway...

hi Mike thanks for the reply ,

yes I have coach net and I checked in with them . if you have a spare and a rim coach net will dispatch services to change the tire for you. no additional cost. however , if you don't have a spare you're at the mercy of whatever they can find locally . I checked around as if I were stranded somewhere and was surprised at the cost figures I was receiving . $900 to $1500 . furthermore my tire size is really rare and hard to find outside of a large metropolitan area . so I'm going to get me a spare tire and rim and hopefully I'll never have to use it . happy trails ,

If you are just looking for a spare, you may find one at a truck junk yard.

You wont need to carry the rim if Coach Net will change the tire. Barrie Boas 94 Concept 5111 On Sunday, August 24, 2014 12:18 AM, "Mbaul@... If you're in or passing through the Minneapolis area the best place around is Westside Tire in Corcoran MN (west of Minneapolis). (763) 420-2100 http://www.westsidetire.net They wholesale to other places like NTB and Discount Tire but also sell to the public (at wholesale prices) and have facilities for large vehicles. I have used them for my farm tractor tires and truck tires for decades. Not sure if they ship to other areas or what that would cost though but maybe worth checking.
My 1998 CC has 275/70R22.5 Load Range J tires. I recently had a blowout, and fortunately I carry spare tires but just loose rubber not mounted on a rim. My (Good Sam) roadside assistance paid for the service call and putting the tire on/off the vehicle but I had to pay $180 for mounting the spare onto the rim and disposal of the shredded old tire. Still cheaper than buying even a used aluminum wheel, for an event that happens hopefully infrequently. The replacement Toyo tire (to replace the spare) from Westside was $488 plus tax.

When I had my diesel pusher, I carried a re-treaded tire (only) in the proper size and rating so the tire shop would not have to search if I ruined a tire. That $100 was money well spent when I blew a dual and the road service took it along with my un-mounted spare to a Jubitz truck stop on a Sunday afternoon and they mounted my 'spare' and I got home that night.

If you had gone back and read the emails from 98 and 99 you would know to to scrap the 275 R 70 tires

and up grade to 275R80's. If your coach is 40 ft long or 36 and have the heavy kitchen slide you need

the 275R80 to handle the dynamic load placed on the left front tire.
You'll also find out there were

other recalls concerning the chassis. some 97, 98, and 99 coaches, Allures and Intrigues were built with

only one rear ride height valves and two front vales, meaning the single front tires were having to

handle all the weight of the coach when it twisted either right or left, further increasing front tire

failures. So the ride height valves and plumbing were swapped front to rear making the duals handle

the rolling forces of the coach. Oh another issue with the 275R70 tires was the fact they cold only

handle the front weight of the 40 ft coaches and some 36 ft coaches with 130 lb pressures. The wheels

could only handle 120 lbs. So it was a bad situation all around. And after receiving 5 telegrams not to move the coach and receiving numerous replacement tires, I gave up and had Les Schwab replace all the

tires with 275R80 Continentals all around. As I remember I had two tire tread separate and one balloon
on the side wall.

That's also the time I learned I had to drive the coach once a month and bring the tires up to full

operating temps while the coach is in winter storage. TWI 98 Allure 30255, 2004 Intrigue 11731

Thanks Marshall (guessed your name from your email address?), that's the only explanation I have been able to get for why the ride height valve configuration should be changed.

I have a 1998 Intrigue 36 foot with no slides, which is probably why mine has survived 124,000 miles with no front tire issues despite having 2 valves in the front and 1 rear. I would like to get it fixed if it is still under the recall, but I'm not sure whether CC still pays for this particular recall after all these years. Kevin W did tell me that if it has made it this far then I probably don't need to concern myself with getting it addressed, but I'd still like to find out what the official CC position is. Repeated messages left for Gregg at the CC Chassis tech service over the past month have gone unreplied to.

I also still have 275/70R Toyo tires (which have been replaced from the originals), but I will be looking for a new set of tires probably for next season so am debating if I should get the Michelin 275/70R XZA2 tires as from the original recall, or change to the 275R80 size. Does the shorter sidewall cause the speedometer to be inaccurate, or is the difference negligible?

Recommendations and experience welcome.

Thanks,
Mark M

Have a 40 ft. 1999 CC Intrigue w/ slide out kitchen. Running Michelin 275/70 R 22.5's. Can anyone suggest proper tire pressure for that rig ?
