Entry Door and other body issues

recently there has been allot of discussion on the board about galvantic corrosion or as some here call it, electrolysis. My coach has had some of the same problems I have discovered. Most of them were taken care of by the original owner while the coach was under the factory warranty. My coach entry door skin was replaced.

The entry door now has a seal problem I have been trying to tackle.
The wind noise seems to be coming in through the forward edge of the door. I often thought that the arms for the ZipDee awning was the culprit, but I had my wife check along the edge and she could feel air coming in. I have tried the various window/door weatherstripping seals I could find at Lowes or Home Depot and have not been able to find anything that works. Has anyone tackled such a problem and what was the solution?

Jim: I had an entry door wind noise during my warranty period. On one of four trips I took to Junction City during my first year, they simply added another strip of identical weatherstriping along side the first peice. That seemed to take care of it.

We also had wind noise at the entry door. We put additional weather strip on the door but on a different surface than the original. It took us a while to find it. The stuff at Lowes or Home Depot didn't work. I could have ordered it but we just kept checking at different RV dealers until we found one that worked.

Jim,

Try a glass shop. We buy specialty items from several companies including Somaca in California. They have pages of different types and shapes. That being said, we find the special one very seldom. But it is a better try than HD.

Sometimes the wind noise comes from the strut bracket being bent causing the upper forword part of door to gap slightly.

I own a 99 intrigue and in Oct. this year I made a trip from Oregon to Tenn, Mississippi, Lousiana and back to the West Coast and I hit on some bad roads.
During this trip on the bad roads my door would pop from a very closed position to a position that let air come in around the door. I have tryed to make the nessary adjustments to the door but I have had no success. I live in the Eugene area so I plan to take it to Country Coach and let them fix it.

I have always locked the dead-bolt lock when travelling. Just lately to avoid the partial door opening during travel I found the other lock latch will partially open with road vibration. If I also set this lock it prevents the door latch from opening. Maybe a slight adjustment is in order but this works for me.

The paint on my entrance door (2000 Allure # 30579) started to blister about a year after I bought it in Oct 2000. Contacted CC before end of warranty period and set an appointment for April 2002 at the factory. I was the prototype for the reskin door fix. CC did the fix at no cost but spent a week at factory while they did the repair. They also put us up in a motel for a night since we couldn't stay in the coach. Have tried for 2 years to stop air leak at top of door. LazyDays replaced all the seals in Nov 2002 and said that would fix the leak. No. Just revisited LazyDays this week and they (with help of Tim Reed) think it is fixed now. Problem. New skin is slightly thinner and door closure bracket at top of door was hitting side of coach, keeping door slightly open. Am at Rally park and haven't been on the road to check for air leak yet.

Hi Dick,

I guess I didn't explain my problem well enough. I to lock my dead bolt when traveling, however my door latch seems to have two positions, one that closes the door very tight and the second position that allows air to come in whereby the door is not tight but still closed.
This situation didn't occur until I traveled several miles on some very rough roads.

I had the same condition that you describe with my entry lock. The problem was that the entry lock plunger was not engaging BOTH striker plates. I noticed the two striker plates were not lined up. The solution was that I ground off the leading edge of the rear striker plate to match the front striker plate. The entry door lock has worked perfectly for the two years since the fix. NOTE: DO NOT remove the striker plate screws as the backing nuts will fall into the door and become unaccessible.

The door on my my Magna started to pop open slightly during travel on fairly smooth roads. The dead bolt wouldn't keep it from opening to the second catch on the striker plate. I finally found the problem to be dried out grease on the striker and striker plate. I cleaned the whole thing and applied fresh silicone lube and solved the problem. jerry in NM, '00 Magna.
