Replacing air and coolant sensors

OK I need help. We have an 05 Inspire with a C9 Cat. Like many folks, I'm experiencing a failure of the hydraulic fan to increase speed as the engine temps increase. I picked up both the coolant and air sensors to swap out.
So, I spent better part of an hour scrounging around in the engine bay and under the coach and I simply cannot locate either sensor. I'm led to believe that the coolant sensor should be somewhere on the radiator or perhaps the tank, but am not finding it. I was told to look up on the air intake from the CAC to find the air sensor and no luck either. (I didn't too good a look at the various components and believe I will need to pull the engine cover to get to that one, but before I do that, I'd like to know if that's the right area to be looking at.
I hear about these sensors being changed all the time and I never thought myself dumb enough not to find them..but apparently I was mistaken about that.
Anyone changed them out on a C9 and can give me any first hand experience? Thanks

Why do you think it is the sensors as apposed to the controller? I have been on this site for about five years and it seems that the controller is the issue more often than sensors. The last time my controller malfunctioned, I took apart the connection and cleaned it with a cleaner for electrical connections, applied some dialectic grease and it is still working going on two years.

For my two cents this is where a certified CAT dealer can be a big help. They have the diagnostic tools to identify the reason the controller is malfunctioning.

When overheating, did you turnoff the engine and restart to reset the computer. This is a trick I got from Chris Snyder, former CC guru, and it worked for a while until the controller completely failed. My failed intermittently for a couple of years before I bit the bullet.

Hi Toni

I had the sensors replaced on my ISC350, Country Coach sent me a diagram of the locations when I purchased the sensors.
Replacing the sensors solved the problem and the controller now worls prorperly.

The sensors are pretty obvious. I assume you don't have them. I believe that in some engines, the cooling functions are ECM driven.

I'm not positive its the sensors, but the best estimate from the folks who work on these things was that it was more likely that than the controller. Like most folks, I'm not a fan of changing out parts to find a problem, but I really have heartburn with the local Cat dealer, so in this instance I'm taking the risk. We'll see whether I made the right call....if I can ever find the damn things.

I have a C-13 Cat engine and am replacing the air and coolant sensors.. No problem with Coolant sensor which was obvious when the rear doors are open. However, I do not know where the air sensor is and therefore cannot change it. I got the sensors from Kevin Waite.

Through the bedroom floor?

John, the air temp sensor should be in the charge air tube between the CAC and the intake manifold. It senses super heated turbo air so the controller can increase fan speed across the CAC and radiator. Hope this helps....Skip, 2002 Intrigue #11329
