2015 Flat Towing Jeep Wrangler

Does anyone know what position the key needs to be in to flat tow a 2015 jeep wrangler automatic trans? The reason I ask is we are thinking about purchasing a new jeep wrangler for a toad behind our CC. I have found that the jeep will flat tow with the transfer case in the neutral position and the trans in park. But do not know how the steering wheel is to remain unlocked, ignition on or in the assessory position or?

Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

I have a 2014 wrangler and I take key out after transfer is in neutral and transmission is in park. No problems as the steering still tracks

The steering lock was eliminated sometime in 2008. My 07 had one, my 12 does not. Put the xmission in Park and the xfer case in Neutral, pull the key and go.

Ken, The 2015 Wrangler columns do not lock. Put the trans in park and take the key out.  Skip....2002 Intrigue #11329

We just bought a new 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. The Owners Guide says to live the Keys in the accessories position and disconect  the Negitive battery cable tow tow. I checked with the head technition  at the dealership about runing a hot wire from Motorhome to the Jeep battery and he said that should be fine. The Dealer said there was no changes made in the 2014 and the 2015. Rumioe is there will be chages in 2016.

I have a 2013 Wrangler 4 door automatic and mine does not have a steering wheel lock.  So I just put in neutral, trans back in park, and then pull the key out and put it in the cupholder.  I have lo jack theft system so the key needs to be with the car when you move it or they start calling, texting, and emailing you.

Likely the 2015 system is the same.  Just food for thought, I love the Jeep Wrangler as a tow car.  I had a Saturn LS300 before and it towed well but the Jeep is way more fun.  (Went to Moab last spring).  If there was one thing I would do differently when I bought the Jeep it would be to get the manual transmission.  The auto in my 2013 is Mercedes based and it is sturdy but is not responsive.  (Meaning it is not fun or put the car in the right gear quickly.  I do it manually. )  One of my close friends has a 2 door Wrangler 2013 and he says the same thing, "I would have got the manual but my wife won't learn how".  So you might test the manual trans when you at the Jeep dealer.  They have a slick 6 speed.  At the very least tell the Jeep people they need to put the modern 8 speed from the Chrysler 300 or the 9 speed from the new Jeep Cherokee in the Wrangler.  Just my opinion.

My Jeep has gone 20,000 trouble free miles driving and about 15,000 towing.
