Allied Signal air dryer

I am trying to find out info about the air dryer on my 1998 Intrigue.
The guys at the Cummins shop said it looks like the entire unit is self contained and needs to be replaced as an assembly (no replaceable filter or heater element), and that it is shoved way up above the drive axle so it isn't easy to get at so they couldn't find a part number or mfr on it.
Kevin Waite tells me that the CC documentation says it is a "Allied Signal" IH795F dryer, but he has never heard of this model and has no info on replacement filters or parts for it.

Google searching for that model number yields nothing.  The Allied Signal company no longer exists by that name, they did own Fram filters and Prestone and other automotive companies at one time (including Bendix) but have since merged with Honeywell and apparently is now an aerospace company under that name.

So, has anyone with a coach of similar vintage to mine ever had any success with replacing the air dryer filter and/or heater elements, or the entire air dryer itself?  I live in MN and while I don't intend to drive in sub-freezing weather, I would like to know that the air dryer is working properly so I don;t end up with frozen moisture or similar issues in my air system.

Thanks,
Mark M

I will agree it's difficult to get to the unit to replace. We have a 98 Allure and the dryer is made by Bendix. Our purge failed after two replacements so I changed the entire dryer. In theory they all work nearly the same. Bendix said mine was an oddball due to how the compressor was set up on the 8.3 Cummins.  Something to do with an internal check valve.  I have the part numbers at home and the unit I purchased was around $250 ordered from a big truck repair center.  I could be wrong but if you have the same motor same year coach a Bendix would work. Physical size and brackets may be the obstacle.  The Bendix trouble number might be able to help you cross it, easy Google search for number. Bendix guys had pretty good phone support.
Good luck

Interesting enough, the dryer on my 2007 Inspire is also a self contained unit with no way to change the filter.  So, I had the entire unit replaced with one that has a removable filter.  Work was done by Redlands Truck and RV in Redlands, CA.  Very nice folks.
