Tried to post this last week but it did not go through.
Anyway, I have been using "Castrol Super Clean"-tough task cleaner/degreaser and am very pleased with the results. Unlike WD 40, it does not collect dirt. Just spray (hand trigger pump) it on, work the steps a few times, and wash with water. A spray attachment on the hose helps. Hope this helps someone!
