Buffing out a clear coat surface mar

I have some minor surface rubs from tree branches. Not being experienced with buffing technique, can you help guide be on the right tool, buffing product and technique?

I have a variable speed buffer/polisher- commercial grade. Set it on 1400-1800 rpm with a wool pad and use 3M super duty rubbing compound. this will remove the mars and rub marks. Then I follow up with a foam pad and 3M Perfect-it machine polish. To avoid leaving swirl marks I polish with a orbit polisher ( like you buy at Walmart for $35) and use liquid turtle wax.
 Must be careful with the compound and buffer. Want to keep moving the buffer to avoid what we call burning the finish. Sometimes it takes three or four passes over the mar to remove it.

Hi All

One thing to be sure of before you start buffing with a direct drive buffer. Make sure your polishes are designed for Clear Coated Finishes or you will spend a lot of time trying to fix the problems you made and get rid of swirls. There are lots of very products out there.
One of my favorite  product companies is " Car Brite"  http://www.carbrite.com/  they have been in business for a long time and should have any thing you need to get the job done correctly.  But Please take your time and start with the least strong products first.
By using Professional products they coast much less and work much better. There is a learning page to help you learn on there site.
Remember it is always best to know what you are going to do before you start.

Since there are only a few places as you said in your earlier email.
 It may be far easier and safer to have a detail shop do it. Probably be  less than the cost of materials for you.
