Finish wash/wax formula

Yahoo Message Number: 100598
Someone posted a formula to make up your own fast touch-up cleaning and finishing wax instead of paying a lot more for Mother's, McGuire's or other brand names. But now I can not remember the proportions of: Liquid car wax, Distilled water, Dawn dish detergent and ??.
If you know the formula please post it again.

This is the formula someone gave me. I have used it and it seems to work well.

32 oz distilled water
16 oz liquid wax

1 tsp Dawn dish washing liquid
1/2 tsp lemon juice

Shake well while using.

Pete,

Thanks for your speedy response. This appears to be exactly what I need! I will make up a batch and try it.
Thanks again.

How do you use this?  Just water down the coach, then use it like soap and rinse?

Bob,

Here are the instructions shown on the very expensive store bought product offered by Mothers, Inc. It is called "Reflections Spray Wax":
1. Shake well before and during use.
2. Begin with a cool, clean, wet or dry surface.
3. Hold sprayer 8-12 inches away and spray surface to be waxed.
4. Using a soft terry cloth or microfiber towel spread product evenly.
5. Buff immediately with another soft terry cloth or microfiber towel.

If the coach surface is really dirty, it needs to be washed first. However, I have found that I can spray this solution directly on very lightly soiled surfaces without washing. The cleaning cloth simply needs to be turned or changed more often. The results are amazing. This product works well on painted surfaces, clear coat and gel-coat as well. This will not work well if the surface is rough or oxidized. It is basically for maintenance of an already sound, slick surface. If your cloth drags it is time to apply a cleaner wax product.

The results you will get with your home-made formula will be the same as "Mothers" but, at a fraction of the cost!

Tip: You probably have already discovered this trick but if not, with top-hinged bay doors it is much easier on your back if you wax them in the open position.

Thanks Lee. I will try you suggestion based on your esteemed chemistry credentials. It should have a similar effect. However, I will try to find a vinegar that has the most pleasant aroma.

True the lemon smells better, but I assume its the slightly acidic nature of vinegar and lemon juice that's the factor. Vinegar is often used in glass cleaners, etc.
