Thank you very much.  I read this with tears and goose bumps and felt the same embarrassment for not wanting our son to serve and yet know how proud we would have been had he.  I felt sadness and shock that it was assumed that you hadn't raised your son  right .  You did raise him very right .  Thanks for this eye opening letter and thank you to your son and every person who might read this who is or has served in our Armed Forces.  I'm always grateful to see a service person so that I can say thank you.

When my son was in the Army during Desert Storm, I supported the war until he called and said he may be deployed.  It's easy to support our military until your child is the one on the front lines. My son didn't get deployed to Iraq but the waiting and worrying was so difficult.  Thanks to all those who have sacrificed for our Freedom including the ones who serve and the families at home.

Personally I think we should reinstate the draft with the same  non-military service options. Too many think the world owes them something. 2  years of serving others at lousy pay would greatly improve many peoples  outlook.
