Girard awning owners take note

A few days ago, I came home to discover that the wind retraction function on my Girard patio awning has stopped working. Luckily there was no damage since there could have been many thousands of dollars if not tens of thousands of dollars of damage. I have a 2002 model which operates off of an anemometer on the roof which I had already replaced a few years ago with an improved version for about $150. To make a long story short after contacting Girard and running some electrical tests, it is not the anemometer, it is something on the main control board. So get this, Girard does not make or sell the main board any longer since the awning is " over 10 years old". Girard's solution is to do a complete retrofit with the new motion system and board for a couple of thousand dollars. I am certain that there's probably just a $5 component on the board that has failed, but Girard offers no repair service. Girard of course purchased these boards from someone else.

I only have one Girard awning, but later coach I believe have as many as 8 or 10. So I am letting you all know that when your coaches pass the 10 year mark and something goes wrong electronically with your Girards, you may find yourself out of luck or looking at thousands of dollars to retrofit with their latest system.

Frankly I find this to be outrageous. Other companies, even Xantrex, have found independent repair services for electronic components that they no longer make.

You might try Dinosaur Electronics in Lincoln City, OR. I've heard they repair pc boards, although, I haven't used this service. I have bought several pc boards to replace defective Norcold fridge control boards. Their product is far superior to the OEM's.

Give them a try.
