To our folks who are in the know re the Carolinas and Virgina, Georgia "" any favorite spots to park and camp for a while and to be sure and see? Thank you.

We will be in the Carolinas soon, and I wonder if this place, The Park at Eagles Nest has rv spots. Thank you in advance.

couple of options near Asheville:

Mama Gertie's Hideaway in Swannanoa NC. They have sites up on the mountain or some below. Downside is it's hilly and not good for walking but overall a beautiful well maintained park.

Campfire Lodgings in Asheville NC. We've never stayed there but sites on the moutain also. Gets great reviews on RV Park Reviews - Trusted Reviews of Campgrounds & RV Parks

We usually stay at the KOA in Swannanoa NC. Not fancy but some sites facing the creek. Some road noise but that didn't bother us.
I would make reservations. Make sure they are open.

don't miss the Biltmore House, gardens and winery. Pricey but well worth it. Wear good walking shoes!

After you leave there couple of options:
1. Tanglewood Park RV Park in Clemmons, NC. east of Asheville NC. Beautiful park with walking and biking trails and dog park. sites 1 or 2 you can get satellite.
2. An option after that is Mt Airy NC where Mayberry RFD was filmed. Mulberry Campground is our favorite. No trees but beautiful sunsets. Friendly owners gather with people in the RV park for sunsets. On the property where the siamese twins Eng and Chang Bunker lived. Their original house is on the property. Mt Airy has lots of things to see related to the TV show and Andy Griffith.
near there is Pilot Mountain State Park for a day trip. They do have RV sites but they are small and a bit rustic for our liking.
In Virginia we loved the Luray KOA in Luray VA. Visit Luray Caverns. Easy drives on Skyline Drive, Harper's Ferry Nat. Historic Site, some Civil War sites.
We stayed in Winchester VA at Candy Hill RV Park and drove to Fairfax VA to the NRA museum. Lonny loved it.
Don't miss West Virginia if you have time. Cass Scenic RR, New River Gorge Bridge. Love West Virginia!

It may be too late.. but another place to check out is The Park at eagles nest.. It's brand new... not a lot of amenities.. but you are literally at 4,000 on top of the mountains.. views are spectacular.

I like camping at Tom Johnson Campground in Marion, NC. It is big rig friendly with nice paved streets as concrete pads. Elevation there is about 1500 ft. It is within an hour to Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Biltmore House, Asheville, Black Mountain and just over an hour to Boone, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, and lots of other stuff.

In Virginia, Middle Creek campground in Buchanan is fun but kind of tight to get to. Just up the road the is a KOA at Natural Bridge. Natural Bridge and the nearby caverns are good attractions.

If you are in the Asheville area, Apple Valley Farm Motorcoach Resort, Lake Lure NC, is a beautiful Class A park. We have stayed there several times, when visiting that area. It is close to Grandfather Mountain, The Biltmore and Asheville. Lake Lure is beautiful, lots to do in the area. Online booking with photos of each site and a user friendly web site. We stayed at Mountain Falls for one week last summer. It is indeed a beautiful place if you don't mind the steep and winding road to get there.

The approach via SC 11 off I-85 just after you cross the GA/SC border headed NE is not bad at all.

Hi Mike,

We moved from FL to the WNC mountains 1 1/2 years ago, but have been coming here for 8 years.

Mountain Falls is a beautiful park and we have stayed there many times. We have also stayed at Lakewood in East Flat Rock it is very convenient to many things to do. There is a park in Asheville where we stayed once. I would not recommend Wilsons Riverfront RV. The location is beautiful though.

It depends on the type of activities you like:

Golf, hiking, Biltmore, Chimney Rock, Flat Rock, Waterfalls - Lakewood in E Flat Rock

Hiking, shopping in Highlands or Cashiers - Mountain Falls

Please feel free to PM me.

Thank you to all of the folks who have written about the places they like in this area. I think we need to stay at least a month and go to all of the wonderful sounding resorts. So much to do! And lots of nice people to meet and share cocktail time with.

Do any of you have ways in which when you're starting a stay in an Rv park that you find if any of the CC owners are members of our forum? I find that I hesitate to knock on somebody's door and ask them. If they're outside, it's an easy thing to do, however. Thank you again.

If you have anything longer than a 20ft RV, there is no good way to get in and out Wilson's Riverfront rv park.unless you are familiar with the back roads in and around Asheville. If you go in from I240 getting in is not that terrible but getting out is a major PITT !!!
