What's under my bed?

Hello: I have tried to remove the panel above the engine but below my mattress. Want so see what I can access from the top of the engine.

I have removed the bolts on the four sides of the engine cover, and then tugged on the chrome grab handles. In spite of mighty effort, the panel moved not a fraction of an inch.

Can anyone guide me in gaining access?

This is a very common occurance for an engine cover that has not been removed in a while. The cause is related to the ribbed rubber seal that the cover sits on when fastened down. With the bolts removed, slip a thin metal strap or small crowbar between the engine cover and the bed platform, in one of the front corners and pry up slightly to break this bond. Once you have broken the bond, you will be able to lift the cover off easily. This seal is provided to prevent dust, smoke, and noise from entering the bedroom. Expect it to reseal itself when you replace the bolts and you will likely need to pop it loose again next time.

There is no mystery to this problem. The hatch has a seal around the hatch that is sticking. It is some form of rubber like substance. If you look up from the rear you can probably see the edge of it.
You will just have to use more force. Be sure you have all the bolts out.
The ones near the bed hinge are harder to see but are there.. It may be necessary to use a pry bar to break the seal. I hopoe this is of some help James M. Green

Using the a pry bar is the common guidance for dealing with this, but I don't find it to be the best approach. The cover and seal gets somewhat chewed-up and often gets crooked and won't open. I place a foot long 2x6 on the valve cover and one under the engine cover and then use a small hydraulic jack to gently lift the cover.
I've probably done this 10 or more times with no problem.
