Battery Monitoring

With all the battery problems that plague motorhome owners I began looking at battery monitoring systems. My first choices were the Link 1000 & Link 2000. I eliminated these due to installation issues in an existing coach. I read a post by Jim Hughes on this forum explaining how he added the Xantrex Freedom Inverter/Charger Basic Remote.

The unit is simple as pie to hook up as you just unhook the phone line from the inverter on/off switch on the CC control panel(located above the door on the Allure & Intrigue) and plug into the new remote panel. On the Allure Jim had to build a shadow box above the CC control panel. On the Intrigue I was able to flush mount & keep centered on the cabinet panel. I moved the CC control panel to the right as you face it(approx 2 3/4") and mounted the control panel on the left. The whole project took an hour to complete, not counting "thought time".

The remote panel has a management system that allows one to input a/c amps & keeps the battery charger from taking all the available amps.
It also monitors battery amp usage--use the micro & watch usage go up & battery amps go down! It also shows battery current charge status and the battery voltage. For people who believe in equalizing your house batteries this unit allows you to do so. Xantrex advises equalizing wet cell batteries once a year.

This unit only monitors your house batteries. The cost was $149.00 from Camping World. I am not associated with Xantrex or Camping World. The post is only made to give an easy way to help monitor your house batteries.
