Driving east from OR

I'd like to ask everyone's opinion, realizing that everyone has one. We are currently very close to buying what appears to be a very nice used CC Intrigue. The problem is that we are on the east coast and the coach is in Oregon.
I am all set to get on a plane and drive back to DC but my wife, the smart one, is concerned about making the drive this time of year. She wouldn't be able to make the trip until mid March and I'm not sure that the seller will hold the coach for that long. I would think it reasonable with a nice deposit on the coach in the interest of safety.
This is our first coach and I would be arranging a driving course in Oregon before leaving. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Depends on the amount of time and patience you have. Travel only when the roads are good. Stop and stay until they are.

If time is limited, have someone deliver it for you.

Hi Matt

I live in Oregon about 60 miles from Junction City, Oregon - home of Country Coach. Western Oregon has been deluged with snow for the past 2 weeks - but all is clear now and roads are great.
If you pick up the Intrigue (we also have an Intrigue) in Oregon, after delivery will you be heading back east or somewhere more weather friendly?
Give me an idea where you wish to head once you've picked up the Intrigue and I'll be happy to give you my opinion on travel here in the great Northwest.

Matt: Buy It and contact CC in Junction City. I bet they have driving Instructor List for you. Then, go South on I-5 and take the southern route to the East Coast...Just check the road reports for Mountian Road Conditions on Oregon Southern Border. Good Luck, Lee in Portland, Oregon

We'll be heading back east right away. I would guess that we'd go down 5 and pick up 40 and take the southern route back across the 48.

Matt,

When we took delivery of our 40' Intrigue at the factory in Junction City, it was our first motor home. We were obviously a little intimidated with driving such a machine. However we did take lessons and recommend them highly. Lessons accelerated the learning curve exponentialy.

The driving school was:

Although the school is based in CA, they have instructore through out the area. We had a wonderful instructor by the name of Johnny Ward who lives locally in the area. When you call the school they will most likely set you up with him or someone local.

Matt: If you do South on I-5 from Oregon, do be sure to check weather from Ashland, Oregon (over Siskiyou's) into Northern California. I-5 was closed recently due to heavy snow. When you are in Southern CA, either I-40 or I-10 will give you a pretty good drive back to the East (checking daily weather forecasts along the way.)

Matt,

I have to agree with your wife. Do the smart thing, take her with you, two heads are better than one. Weather is not the only factor. The Coach should be serviced before you make the trip.
Check the sellers records to make sure a complete PM was done and don't forget the Generator. Having purchased in August 03 from a dealer 6 hours from home was as much as I wanted to handle. We spent 3 hours going over the coach before we pulled out.

Don't forget insurance, you know the kind you need when it stops working.
