Zip Dee Awning puzzled!

So I never used the main awning on my 99 Allure until recently. It opens fine but after its deployed I assume I'm supposed to unlatch the first rail that has a hook on one end that I'm supposed to lift up and hook onto the top of the awning somewhere, then proceed to unlatch the second to raise the front of the awning on each side. Problem is there's nothing to hang this rail with hook at the top of the awning. there's no hole or pin to hook onto so I'm afraid to raise the front. Any ideas, as it would be nice to actually use it. I did buy the coach from the original owner about 4 months ago and he said he just never used it so was;t sure. Am I missing a part? It doesn't seem like anything is missing? Or does the Allure not use the feature of latching the hook at the top like the Magna and just there and left latched in the put away position? Hope this makes sense to someone. I'm stumped.. thanks!!

I use my Zip Dee all the time and the stiffener rod you mention hooks into a slot in the "armor" wrap at the top end. I can then pull down on the awning to set the tension in the rod. The same procedure for both ends and make sure you slant the awning down slightly at the back end so rain cannot accumulate. Safe travels.

There are two styles of Zip Dee and you have the early Style like I had on My Airstream and 98 Allure. If you will go to the Zip dee website as i remember they have manuals you can down load on how to operate your awning. But as I remember the is a hole on either end of the roller cover that the hook connects into. Then you pull down the roller to tension

the support arms at either end that follows along side the awning until the release pin locks into place. Then you place the second arm to the bracket on the coach and extend the arms to the desired tilt of the awning. If you are located where light showers happen you may want to tilt one end of the awning to increase the runoff in a preferred direction. Always retract your awning when you are not on site with your coach!. TWI 2004 Intrigue 11731, with Zip Dee Awnings.

While you are searching ZipDee's website, lock for the upgraded rafters which hinge at the top and hook to the awning roller. I changed mine years ago as they are much easier to hook.

Thanks guys! Looking at the ZipDee web site there's a universal key lock kit with rivets to replace the riveted parts on each upper end of the awning that has the holes for the hook, Thanks to you, I've confirmed these parts are missing from mine which explains my enigma!

Still take into account the recommendation for the new rafter arms. With the hook attaching to the roller tube and not the aluminum wrap you will find it much easier to deploy and store the awning.

You no longer need the special awning rod and can use a standard rod if you choose. You will also find that storing the awning is much easier and faster, especially when the sudden thunderstorm comes up.

They have an adapter kit that reverses the rafters from having to latch these things at the top (which was a retarded idea to start with) to being able to latch them at the bottom. The cost for this up grade is about 235.00 .I'm wondering if someone may have already used this up grade on yours. This up grade is cat #299bxx. My Prevost CC still has the hooks at the top and I have to a carry a 4 ft step ladder in order to reach those things.

There is an up date where Zip Dee will turn the arms fixed connection point from on the roller to up where the cover is located making it much easier to connect the arm and tension it as show on videos posted on You tube by Airstream on deploying your main awning. Being Tall hooking the arm at the top against the coach was never an issue for me, but for challenged folks Zip Dee makes an extension arm you use to make attaching the arm to the roller cover much easier.
