ISL has hesitation while acceleration.

Our ISL 400 can sometimes have a split second hesitation when accelerating from a stop or onto a freeway on ramp. It happens around 20 to 35 MPH. It is like someone shut off the engine for a split second. No codes or check engine light. It used to happen about once a month but now it happens maybe once a day.
The throttle control under the throttle pedal failed about a month ago and I figured that was the problem but hesitation is still there. I am afraid that someday it will leave us beside the road.

Hi Skip,

Yes I have Silverleaf and no codes. a few years ago I would get an occasional "lost tachometer signal" but it would go away on next start cycle. The engine would run normal with the code and the check engine would come on.

Had a similar experience and ended up replacing the crankshaft rpm sensor and the cam position sensor. Our engine is the 370hp ISL with CAPS fuel injection. You may have different sensors. Code PID 190. let us know what you find....Skip

Skip, to clarify, were you getting the codes and a hesitation or just one and not the other? Back when I was getting the lost rpm signal I was getting no hesitation.

Norm, originally the hesitation was once on initial start out without a code. Then a clean drive until we stopped, this went on for 4-5 years. Alarming but never enough to pin down problem. This spring the hesitation became more frequent and violent with a code on each episode. Then load made it more pronounced, a slight grade would produce a series of recoils in the driveline with a code on every jerk and resulting in power loss. Replacing the sensors cured all the power loss, hesitation, and no longer sets any codes. We're in western Colorado pulling 6-8% grades easily and smooth running.......Skip

Thanks Skip for the information. I think replacement of the cam and crank sensors is in order.

Bill, thanks for the link to the CAPS system problems. I think I will look into getting the Fass fuel pump.
I do change my fuel filters every year.

I had a leaking lift pump that would cause similar symptoms. Almost like hiccup once in a while and then every thing seemed fine.
