50 amp supply outlet

Yahoo Message Number: 107501
When a 50 amp outlet is created are there two separate fused circuits (ganged together), one common circuit and one ground. I have a situation where a new 50 amp outlet has only one hot leg. I want to know if my assumption is correct before I inspect the outlet and correct the wiring.

That would be correct, 20 50 amp breakers ganged together. If you measure between to the 2 hot feeds you should get 220/240 and if you measure between either and common or ground get 110/120.

Ray...........I'm fairly sure you meant to say "two 50 amp breakers ganged together"............not '20'.

Fritz be very careful if you have a 125 - 250 volt you will have two hot legs Peach with 1:20 volt to neutral if you do not and you only have one leg it could be a straight 240 volt. Check it out with your voltmeter

Brian..........If Fritz is plugging into a 120/240 volt single phase residential supply, there can never be 240 volts present on only one of the legs.
